Prince and the recent billboard hot 100 change

last week Billboard made a change in the way they make up the billboard hot 100 chart...they now add downloaded single sales to the chart and combine them with radio airplay..this is good news for artists like Prince who cant get enough radio airplay to get a top 40 hit..a good example of this is the The Killers new song Mr Brightside...even tho it is gaining good radio airplay it probably wouldnt have been enough yet to get them into hot 100 chart at all but since the song was downloaded so many times so far it debut's on the hot 100 chart this week at #40....so in the future Prince is much more likely to return to the top 40 chart..in fact i think if this had gone into effect in April the Musicology single would have made the top 40

yeah im just bummed it's not been sooner, who knows if prince'll get this publicity again.

thing is, was musicology a "download" single, actually, i'm thinking of his site and not itunes, where it did quite well?

hopefully we'll see him in the top40 yet then! smile

interestingly though, we could see bsides chart!

yes Musicology was the only single from the album that was avaliable on Itunes and it did pretty well..it was in the top 10 on the pop catagory for over a month and was in the top 40 on the overall sales chart also over a month

I actually wonder if the music club reports sales numbers to Billboard, and who checks the accuracy of the numbers being reported?
