Need background info on this NPGMC track

The NPGMC track I'm referring to is called "We Gon' Make It Funky."

There's a sax intro, then Maceo sings "We gon' make it funky" about eight times, then Prince plays lead guitar for about four minutes.
Questions:
Was this a brand new tune when Prince and Maceo did it?
Is there any similarity between this tune and James Brown's "Make it Funky?"

Anxiety

Is this "San Jose Jam" that was streamed on NPGMC at the same time as Glass Cutter?

Another forum has informed me that the track was recorded during the 2001 Celebration. Maybe it was released via NPGMC on Nov 21, 2001? I've also been told that it doesn't sound anything like JB's "Make it Funky."

I'm interested in the origin of the lead guitar. Prince plays it, but did he write it too? Is it his creation?

My investigation has found a CD called "Maceo" (1994) with these tracks:

Track Listing:

Cold Sweat {James Brown, Alfred Ellis} 9:00
Knock On Wood {Steve Cropper, Eddie Floyd} 4:15
New Moon {A Ellis} 7:24
House Party {Fred Wesley} 7:29
New Song {Maceo Parker} 4:56
Do Right Woman - Do Right Man {D Penn, C Moman} 4:22
Chameleon {Herbie Hancock} 10:34
Make It Funky/Funky Good Time/There Was A Time
{J Brown, B Hobgood, C Bobbit} 14:53
C Jam Funk {G Clinton, B Collins, M Parker} 11:50

I guess the next logical step is to find this CD and look for similarities within the "Make It Funky/Funky Good Time/There Was A Time" track.

Recorded during Maceo's set during Celebration 2001. Released on NPGMC as one of the monthly downloads (possibly only for premium members at the time?), 11/21/01.

It was cool and unexpected to hear this played during Maceo's set while opening for Prince in Boston on the Musicology tour - but that leads me to think maybe it is an older tune...

It looks like nobody is certain about the origin of this track. I'll have to assume that it was new when it was released in 2001.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I think you can listen to a sample of "Make It Funky" on this web site:
