Going to Minnesota...hints needed Hello all you Purple People...
My first post.....I've been a Prince fan since I heard "Ronnie Talk 2 Russia" back in the day and I am still here... my question.... I have been to Minnesota and of course went to 1st Avenue but I am going back in May or June and I am looking for the hidden jewels of Prince sites. like, do you know where certain scenes from Purple Rain were filmed, this was the inspiration for this song. etc etc.. I read the FAQ's on this site but I am looking for a Purple Maniac to help me get the most of my trip to Minnesota.. HELP!!! Thanks and Peace

Well according 2 the documentary on the 20th Anniversary Edition DVD of the film, Purple Rain was split between 2 film locations, Minneapolis and Los Angeles!! Like for example the scene where Appolonia jumps naked in Lake Minnetonka, that scene alone was split between Minnie and LA!! Plus other street scenes as well, so its not entirely all filmed in Minnie!!

I think because Minneapolis isn't L.A., New York or Chicago. We ALL feel like it's OUR city as Prince fans. Kind of like where I am from Detroit (Prince's 2nd home)
Being that it is smaller than most cities, we feel like you locals could tell us.. "hey this was the inspriation for this song, or hey, Prince lived here" etc etc.. Like here in D-Town, We can tell you guys things like... "This was Madonna's dorm at Michigan, this is where Kid Rock used to play etc etc.:" I am just looking for some local hidden jewels. Minneapolis is our MECCA Let us enjoy it and PLAY NICE!!!

OK. . .you might want to check out Calhoun Square [a mall located on the corner of Hennepin and Lake]. If you look across the street from the square on Lake and to your right you will see a purple door. The shop is called Go Home. . .this is where the NPG shop was in the mid-90's.
Try to go to Paisley Park. . .At least drive by and take a pic. . .

Like someone said, there isn't much of Princely stuff around Minneapolis. You could try checking out The Quest which is where Glam Slam use to be. I haven't been there in prob 6 or 7 years, maybe more but last time I was there you could see a few Prince remnants still lurking round.

ahh ..this brings back memories .
I made a Prince pilgramage to MPLS i think it was the summer of 1994. It was aweekend trip. Went to the NPG store ..ah the smell of incense and being that close to the actual Alphabet St car and actually wondering..hum i wonder if he could be upstairs Walking around the outside of First Avenue and taking pictures like a lame tourist Hitting the Glam Slam and grooving on the dance floor of the mans club. And best of all ..Paisley Park...lucking out to be there on a night he did on eof those improptu show..walking down the beautful hallway back to a big ass room ..standing there for 2 hours waiting for him to come out and being right up against the stange .. close enough to see him sweat and play an incredible show. For those who live in MPLS this was prob. an average weekend. Cut us MLPS foreigners a break [Edited 2/3/05 11:09am]

seriously--i smack up the princely tourista whenever i see 'em. ...j/k Well, yeah, I agree, and yet, the second time I went to MPLS in 98, I had a very enjoyable time visiting the city. There's a reason MPLS is considered one of America's best kept secrets. It's a great city to vacation in.

Why are all the Minneapolis natives hating? I'd love to visit there someday
If anyone wants to come to Baltimore I'll gladly show you where Sisquo used to work and where Poe is buried I guess thats not a real attractive tour though? If you will, so will I
