There's also a reference to 17 in Mountains: "Once upon a time in a land called fantasy / 17 mountains stood so high."

I've always wondered what that was a reference to.

re: 7--biblical number for good (6 is the biblical number for evil and 3 is the biblical number for complete--thus 666 = complete evil).

re: 17--have asked that question many times. Even in the old love4oneanother.com ask Prince a question time but that wasn't a question they chose unfortunately. There are many 17 references as listed above plus "17 horns blowin'" "kicked out of my home at 17" etc.

Both 7 and 17 have biblical references. For example "17 days" and the line "let the rain come down" could have something to do with Noah's age being 600 years, two months and 17 days when the flood began. 17 also appears when Peter catches fish .. the number caught is 153, which is the triangulation of 17, being 1+2+3+4+...+17

7 is also over the place. The song '7' is straight out of The Book of Revelations.

I think using the same numbers repeatedly is all part of Prince's grand design to make a mythology about himself - idiosyncracies that are associated only with him, like his high-heel boots, the guitars, the splits, the symbol, the getting rid of band members...
