Are you SURE you don't work for them?! wink

You are right, OSX is beautiful. But give me functionality any day. just being able to do things at twice the speed via a right mouse button makes XP worth it wait in gold alone.

I use OSX 10.3 on my mac, its pretty, crashes far more than XP, and is cumbersome. Sure the scroll at the bottom is nice. But its slow and becomes a right pain.

For years I would agree with you, that Mac OS was more stable, and windows tried to copy the look. But XP is leaps and bounds ahead now. I think tiger is acually starting to copy XP now.

I've tried out longhorn, and its very nice. But its good to see microsoft taking their time and releasing it 5 years on from XP, rather than simply trying to limp on with 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 etc.

Saying that, Longhorn is not the one to look out for, its the full 64 bit version of Windows in April which will be the true performer.

Mac STILL haven't switched to 64 bit, even with all these "new" versions of OSX. But thats ok, they have a spotlight!

Of course, its everyone to there own.

There is a choice. Something pretty (and beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

Or something half the price, twice as powerful, and much more functional.

Yeah, and because SPOTLIGHT and DASHBOARD are such great tools, they're available for the PC right now ! Not build in the OS, but as Freeware tools. So what's your point, buddy ?

People always blaming Microshit for bundling things like the MediaPlayer together with the OS, but what is Apple doing with these tools ? They have really lots of nice tools right out of the box. When MS is doing that, they instantly getting sued.

You can do all these things on a PC as well - Desktop search i.e. is available from MS and Google, Yahoo currently developing it / Dashboard like tools are available as well -> AveDesk, Konfabulator, DesktopX, Samurize). Apple is definitely innovating, but if you really want to have these things, you can have them on a PC as well, often earlier than on a MAC. And you can choose between dozens of different tools, it's your choice. If you like the OSX GUI, fine, then get StyleXp or Windowblinds and make your PC look like OS X, OS 9, Beos, KDE or whatever you want.

Yeah, I'm working on MAC all day long and I do own one, but I love to turn on my PC when I get home, cuz I can use it the way I want, not the way someone like Apple wants me to. It's my choice not theirs - THINK DIFFERENT wink

All that crap about stability and viruses is just blah blah blah. My XP machine crashes less often than my G5 at work !

Viruses ? Just protect yourself and you're done. Like you do when changing partners rapidly razz

Speed ? My PC is converting audio files x-times faster than that stupd iShit. My PC is already in Standby mode, when the MAC is still busy with burning a CD. I'd love to compare 3d Game speeds, but unfortunately there are only a few available for the Mac (why is that ?).

Networking ? Just try to connect your MAC over AppleTalk with a VPN line and download a 600MB file. Takes you ages. You know why ? Cuz Apple's Network implementation is bad as hell, that's proven. Easy to connect, easy to set up, but way tooooo slooooow.

So the decision between a PC and MAC (for home users) is not about speed, not about stability. It's about having the freedom of choice or to be determined by a small community. And, please, all you die hard MAC lovers, stop comparing your Macs to PCs running Windows 98. This decade is over. For years.

If you're in the Graphics businness, your choice may be different, cuz the whole community runs MACs. You can do the same on a PC (all the Software is available for PCs as well and companies like Adobe are selling more items to PC users than to MAC users !), but you're running into trouble when you try to provide i.e. a color separator with PC files. Just because they use that platform for years and fear a change. Believe it or not, but it's true.

cheers,

Does Paisley Park actually have living quarters; like bedrooms and bathrooms and such. I've heard that Prince has actually lived there sometime, but with him it's hard to determine what 'lived' means. Unlike any other musician, Prince literally spends days in the studio recording and doesn't go to bed. Just wonderin if any has ever seen these bedrooms?

mac vs pc debate

someone said something about mice button. Funny, I have a 2 button mouse on my mac. Actually, I have a switch and use the same mouse and keyboard on mac and windows. The right button on the mac does pretty much the same thing as the right button on windows.

Overall, though, it's unbelievable to me that people still put up with windows. first you have headaches like viruses, spyware, adware, etc. Stupid apps that let you move everything, including the menu bar. My wife uses windows, I'm always having to fix junk like that for her. She had an app she was using that had step by step instructions on how to do something. She got stuck on a step that said click the "A" icon. Had a nice little picture of the icon, they couldn't tell you where it would be, though. Said it's "usually" at such and such spot. We couldn't find it anywhere.

And Internet Explorer is just plain awful. How does anyone put up with it. Your bookmarks are sorted alphabetical because that's a little easier for the programmer instead of in the order you want them because that's far, far, far easier for the user. It's just completely unbelievable that software in 2005 would still care so little about letting the user organize things.

Then you have an OS that is designed to not scale up to larger monitors well. I have a 23" monitor on my mac and also want a G5 with a 30" display because I can make great use of the extra screen space. Windows apps like to use the whole screen and hide all of the other apps. And they generally are not designed to integrate with each other very well. On the mac, if i have a document open and want to email it, I save it, then instead of hunting for it on my disk, I can just grab the document icon off the window title bar and drop it either into an open mail window or right onto the mail.app icon on the doc and it just does the right thing.

I could go on and on - as someone who uses both every day and has since 1984 on the mac, and since windows 3.1 for windows. It used to be that windows had closed the gap and even had the lead in some areas. But Apple has again left then in the dust in usability and functionality these past few years.

Plus they now have an OS that's tons easier to program. We prototype and perfect everything on the mac before we even bother to write any code on windows because it's so much faster to do it that way. Even apps for clients that will never run it on windows, it's still faster to do a mac version first and get it all right before we do any windows coding.

Finally, hardware speed debates totally miss the point. In 99% of the cases, well written software saves much more time than fast hardware. You can't type any faster on a faster CPU, you can't read any faster. Who cares if the CPU is faster or slower if the software makes you go through extra steps to do something as simple as attach the file you're working on in an email - steps that are error prone and could result in attaching the wrong file.

Comments like these kill me. It's no wonder Microsoft is big as it is. People are sheep and almost none of them really know a thing about computers.

What a narrow minded knucklehead you are....
Sorry for the wording, but you didn't understand a word of what was said before.

Yeah, 71000 Viruses on Windows, but why would someone write a Virus for MACs if it doesn't hit somebody ? Viruses are destructive and they are written to be that. So, tell me why would you want to destroy something that basically doesn't exist (compare Market shares, my friend) ??? Virus programmers demand attention. Do you really believe CNN would air a News like that "Computer Virus hits a MAC user in Northern Kentucky" razz

Every system has it's lows and highs, that's for sure. It depends on what you wanna do with it. Like I said before, you can do almost everything on a PC you can do on a MAC and vice versa - I even would go further and say you can do even more on a PC, cuz - and now read carefully - there are a thousand times more tools and applications available for PCs than for MACs. Same for Hardware. wink

It's everyone's individual choice what system to favour. You prefer MACs, fine. But don't come up with stupid numbers out of the blue and compare apples with oranges.

cheers,

We have been building recording studios for most of the major players in the game since 1992, including Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis's studio in Los Angeles and many many others!

As before, please feel free to contact me at the Studio Logic sound website at any time if you need anything.

And thanks again for enjoying our Pa. Studio. We think that it kicks Paisley Parks' butt. But that is just our humble opinion wink !

Thanks man. But I've already placed my order. I should be getting my new G5 TODAY!!!! I went all bluetooth. I was going to order the iPod photo, but I was advised to wait until April that they were coming out with another model that is bluetooth as well. Wireless headphones/earbuds/whatever.

I also got airport and a new printer.

Next month or May, I'll be looking to getting a second G5 and if there is enough money left over, the 30 inch display.

I'm told that's when Tiger will be available as well a new series of G5 towers. So goodie for me! The work has been pouring in and I want to make some serious upgrades!

Just last night I went and bought a bunch of purple sound foam and an acrylic drum baffle. I'm going to look at your site and a few others today to get some ideas on how to arrange the different color foam and baffles into little patterns and stuff.

Although we're like the "broom closet" of that PA studio, it's still a cool place to be creative.
