Hopefully, I'll get my new G5 by the end of the month. And if I play it right, I might get the new 30 inch display!

I'm green with envy.

I am working on getting my G5, and my G3 will get passed on to my kids.

Yes, he owns it.

But he rents it out for recording, filming and rehearsal use.

Prince has a home a few minutes drive away from Paisley Park.

The Paisley Park studio complex does have some private rooms and offices. There is a kitchen off the main atrium area, some areas for relaxation and a gymn.

Not to turn this into a mac thread but the new G5 is great! I got mine maxed with 2gig of ram and it is unlimited for music or graphics.

It's comes Garage Band and I'm getting the Digidesign MBOX for recording. Wendy And Lisa are big Mac users also.

A PC with double the amount of processing power would have cost 50% less, you know...

But hey, let's not teach kids absolutely anything about computers, because PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS USE MACS. Period.

It's all in the chip.
The funny thing is that a PC with double the amount of processing GHz is still 50% SLOWER and 100% more crashes and viruses than that of the MAC.

Apple said:

Mac OS X really shines at top speeds, and the Power Mac G5 offers whiplash-fast models, from a single processor 1.8GHz configuration to the dual processor power of 1.8GHz, 2GHz and 2.5GHz models with a substantial speed boost at the top of the line. The dual 2.5GHz model packs so much power into tight quarters that Apple designed a liquid cooling system for it, resulting in a cool tower that runs Photoshop nearly two times faster than a Pentium 4-based system. In fact, for most creative endeavors, the Power Mac G5 simply has no competition in its class.

Starting at $1499.00: http://www.apple.com/powermac/

And now you can get one for even cheaper: http://www.apple.com/macmini/

And no, I don't work for them. I L.O.V.E. MY MAC!

You don’t work for Mac, but you should do, Mac head! wink

I love it when Mac fans defend the hardware. Where did you get the comparison table, Apple? It is comparing older slow PC’s with the processor of the $3000 G5! And a $3000 mac still only comes with 512 of SDRAM. Is that the only way they can win an argument these days? I suppose it is.

The 939 pin PC Athlon 64 bit chips leave the G5 standing! The only Althon they list in that chart is an old 2.4. They are careful with there wording. Notice they don’t claim to be faster than AMD.

The funny thing is, the processor is not the most important element for programs such as photoshop. The cache and memory have the biggest effect on speed and rendering, and the latest althons have 1000 L2 cache, not the 512 on the mac. You can have all the processing power in the world, but if your cache pipe is limited, the whole process is slowed.

A PC built to match the top G5 would cost about $1500!. A PC built to woop its arse would cost no more than $2000! And for that that would get you 500Gb of HD (not the 160 Mac give), 1 Gb of ram (not 512), a dual layer 16 speed DVD writer that writes – and + format and a double powered graphics card.

I use both a mac and a pc, and the PC wins every time. Upgradability, software, stability (yep, its finally ahead) and price. Granted viruses are about, but if you protect, they are nothing to worry about. Besides, any market leader will be attacked by viruses. Mac don’t suffer simply because no one can be bothered to write viruses for a machine with 3% of the market.

Just ask Peter Jackson and George Lucas. Their effects departments boths switched to PC’s in 1998. I wonder why....? I bet they missed having a mouse scroll wheel!

But of course……Macs look nice……. lol

The ongoing PC vs MAC debate... blah, blah, blah...

lol

I use both too, and for what I do for a living ... video editing, music, animation, photo, and all that other memory hog tasks, the MAC has always out shined any PC, I've worked on. I don't doubt your stance on these new PC processors, but I have no idea what any of that means. I just make pretty pictures all day. (as I tell everyone that comes to me for tech support)

I did watch a web cast from Apple that explained their technology way better than I could ever. Something about the amount of portals that the information has to go through between the chips and they memory. Something about how the PC's go through 21 plus portals. With the MAC, the information goes through 7.

The presenter of the demonstration was explaining how you can't compair the GHz or MB # levels between the two because the architecture was apples and organges.

Like I said, I know nothing on this stuff to base a tech argument off of, but I will tell anyone what has worked for me. The new iLife suite and other home apps from apple makes it so easy for every day users, my own grandmother understands it. She was always calling me for help with her PC. I get calls almost everyday from customers of mine telling me their PC's are infected with a virus, they can't turn it on, all kinds of no-brainer questions, I just tell them to get a MAC. So far three have and they absolutely LOVE it.

As far as that area goes, I hope Apple stays in the smaller market share.

Novabreaker

PCs ran over Macs even in multimedia work a several years ago. Sure, there was a great deal of (i.e.) latency difference in the late 90s, but with WinXP those things were improved a great deal. And my WinXP partition has probably crashed only twice during the last three years (and it's been under heavy multi-track audio processing strain). My "bulletproof" (so it is hyped) Linux partition, however, crashes at least every third day - altough I have chosen to favour it for everything else than audio work, just because of my own personal preferences.

Believe me, I fucking hate Microsoft and their butt-ugly interface for brainless idiots. Their licensing fees and inadequate bundled programs. But it would be just completely futile trying to deny that a PC with WinXP running on it wouldn't be the best, most powerful platform for any kind of CPU heavy processing. It's miles apart from the competition.

I've worked on XP. I still can't see how anyone can would choose XP over OSX.

It's friggin beautiful. Have you used OSX?

Also, did you see the new version coming out? Somebody say Spotlight and Dashboard!

Oh yeah edit: It will be here LONG before LONGHORN!
(which I'm sure will be the best copy of an Apple OS that Microsoft has ripped off to date.)

Hi Novabreaker. If people like PC's and they work for them that's great.

I've always like MACS because they are pretty intuitive to use. Not being a particular brainy guy that helps.

I really enjoy the G5 personally.

Everyone have a good weekend and play some music by The Carpenters today.
