Can you help a "Newbie???"

Good morning everyone from a very cold and wet Newcastle, NE England.
As a newbie to this site I am discovering much to look at and read. It's a very cool site.
I recently received a 2cd set from a guy in Holland called "Prince - After Hours with Stevie Wonder". A lot of the tunes I am unfamiliar with, a lot are jams and I would be grateful if there is ANYONE out there who could supply a tracklisting AND recording details as there is no indication of where OR when this was recorded.
My email is
parcan1961@hotmail.com
Look forward to hearing from you.
Be well

Isn't this the 26-06-1996 show in Los Angeles you are reffering to?
the beautiful ones, you always seem to loose

I don't know of any Holland show that has Stevie there. Can you hear Stevie? Is the quality unbelievably good? Does it start with an instrumental (with a ripping guitar solo) and then DMSR?

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
YES, it is UNBELIEVABLY good quality, YES, it does start with a killer instrumental (the drum beat in particular is tasty) and YES it then segues into DMSR.
I received the title from a guy in Holland, BUT, there were no details other than the title "Afterhours with Stevie Wonder".
No dates, places, titles.
Hence my request for info.
As a newbie, Prince was always someone who I bought the official releases by, but only now as my daughter is older and not SUCH a drain on my time and money, have I started to trade titles with folks out there.
You don't need me to tell you there are more Prince titles than I will EVER know, so any help on the where and when and titles of this particular show would be gratefully received.
Thanks for all your help.
Be well everyone,
PAR CAN biggrin

Starting to sound like "Small Club" with the "great sound" and instrumental jam going into DMSR. . .if that's the case, here's the tracklisting:

Instrumental Jam
DMSR
Just My Imagination
People Without
Housequake
Down Home Blues/Kansas City
Cold Sweat
Forever In My Life
Still Would Stand All Time
I'll Take U There
Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic

Location: Club Trojan Horse in The Netherlands
Date: August 18, 1988

Did this help?

I have heard some live performances with Stevie and Prince. I downloaded them from Kazaa a couple of years ago. The only song I remember them singing was 'Maybe Your Baby' and maybe Superstition.

It sounded like it was recorded at a club or a private venue because you can hear the audience singing along very clearly, which was nice.

Okay guys, here’s some detail of the 2 cd’s I received. FORGET the HOLLAND connection, the guy who sent it to me is from Holland but he got it from a guy in Germany !! This is DEFINITELY a USA gig as you can hear US accents in the small crowd. I suspect this is a soundboard recording, as the crowd is low in the mix, no audience mic !! I worked for bands for long enough to know how that sounds. Most of my Tubes titles are soundboard shows with no audience mic.

PRINCE
“Afterhours” - with Stevie Wonder
Date & Venue unknown

Disc One - 77.06
1. Instrumental (cool drumbeat, piano workout, band kicks in at 2.30 and Prince starts wailing at 3.00, back to a piano workout “kisses” blown at 5.00 and by the sound of the crowd, this is a small club in the USA, big guitar wail at 8.00 through 10.00, male voice at 10.10.....couldn’t make out what was said !!...drummer flails at 10.00 through 12.00 followed by final guitar workout) 13.23 - (Prince says “Well, this beats going to sleep, don’t it, show of hands, how many are drunk , alright, you mean you’re gonna actually hear what we play tonight, you’re not gonna make up the notes in your mind)
2. DMSR starts with Prince asking “what kinda beat can you put to that” 8.25
3. Just My Imagination 8.09
4. “We do this next one in the dark” String synth intro, “People without sense play i the light, turn the lights off” 10.09
5. “Knock, knock, Jo, Jo mama” Housequake 5.22
6. Female vocalist, Downhome Blues ?? 8.05
7. Contusion (Stevie Wonder) heavy jazzy instrumental workout, (sounds like a different venue, ambient sound is now bassy and audience sounds much bigger) 17.38
8. Another instrumental workout, lot of oohs and aahs before Stevie Wonder announces title of previous track and the performers as Wonderlove, before Higher Ground starts at 3.00 mark 5.52

Disc Two - 79.08
1. Back to the Prince club gig - Crowd chants “Sheila” - Female vocalist 10.27
2. You In My Life ?? - 13.02
3. “Still All The Time” - 10.57
4. I’ll Take You There 16.08
5. STEVIE Living For The City
6. STEVIE ??
7. STEVIE ??
8. STEVIE You Are The Sunshine
9. STEVIE Superstitous

Hope there’s enough detail now for someone to nail the whre’s and the when’s. WHY the Stevie Wonder stuff ?? I would rather have a Prince gig be a Prince gig and a Stevie gig be a Stevie gig, especially as I reckon there must be around 20 years between these 2 shows.

Thanks for all the help

ps Newcastle is warm and sunny today a beautiful winter sun. It continues to be developed with ridiculously overpriced "pads" for the knobs but is still a cool place to live

Is that the same gig that Prince did with Stevie at the Intermezzo in Detroit back in '96?

So
Anyone know DEFINITELY when and where the Prince stuff was recorded?
It is definitely a USA club NOT Holland.
The Stevie Wonder stuff is, I THINK, a mid 70s arena gig, judging by the ambient sound and the crowd noise and the tunes he plays.
So I am gonna remaster this removing the Stevie stuff. Why this was tagged onto a Prince gig is anyone's idea. Different gig, different artist and I reckon 20 or more years between the shows!! Seems pointless to me.
What was the "Club Trojan" title previously mentioned?

Thanks Lennon

I would swear to the voices being American in the crowd, but hey, if you are sure it's Holland then that's good enough.

ANY idea why the Stevie stuff was tagged onto this title OR the origins of this becoming available on the market. I just can't figure out WHY anyone would have put this title together in the way they have.....what are the "alleged" links between Prince and Stevie, a small club gig and an arena gig and most of all, at least 10 years between the shows.....it don't make sense to me.

Thanks to everyone who offered help, you're a cool group here.

PAR CAN from a beautiful sunny Newcastle. biggrin cool wink
