Another CD to get a non-fan to listen to Prince.

I have a friend who admits that Prince is a great musician. But he hasn't heard much of anything outside of "Little Red Corvette" and various Purple Rain stuff.

He likes Herbie Hancock, Phish and lots of other instrumental bands that I couldn't name.

So I set out on a quest to create a CD for my friend. I looked over News and most of all the other albums. I decided a live compilation would be the best. I immediatly went to One Night Alone....live!

Track list:

1. Joy In Repitition
2. Xenophobia
3. Extraordinary
4. Family Name
5. Take Me With U
6. Rasberry Beret
7. Alphabet Street.
8. Peach
9. Girls & Boys
10. The Everlasting Now
11. Everlasting Now

Again, these are all selected from One Night Alone. It has a good share of hits in the middle but I don't think that's going to make much of a difference.

Whatever happens, I hope I turn on one more person to Prince.

Is that Joy In Repitition from the aftershow?

Sure is. ^^ I just loved the beginning of the track when Prince gave the line "let us tune up". It fit so perfectly for me as an opening track.

I would honestly get rid of the last track, and replace it by Anna Stesia.
That's the ultimate closing track!

But there's such a nice sax solo in the middle. ^^

I tried out Anna Stesia, It didn't quite have the same effect. The Everlasting now and it's aftershow replay are exciting!

I will assume that this nonfan likes different genres of music. I will also assume that the nonfan has heard most of the charted singles, and hasn't heard many live tracks. So I will go with this:

1. When You Were Mine
2. Private Joy
3. Lady Cab Driver
4. 17 Days
5. She's Always In My Hair
6. Girls & Boys
7. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
8. Adore
9. Dance On
10. The Future
11. Joy In Repetition (LP version)
12. And God Created Woman
13. Pink Cashmere
14. endorphinmachine
15. I like it there

I think that's all that will fit.
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

The song Diamonds and Pearls is what caught my attention. Bought the CD 13 yrs. later, though.

Well I went with the original track list. I felt best with that arrangement. I gave it to my friend and we listened through the entire thing. By the end of it he was freaking out about how insane the guitar playing was and how the different arrangements brough songs to life.

In other words, he loved it. Mission complete. <3

I have a friend who is a former Deadhead who has always had mad respect for Prince. He is the typical jam band hippie who is open to just about any talented artist. He asked me recently for a CD for him and his wife of some more obscure Prince stuff.

This is what I gave him:

The Ride
Just My Imagination (from the Small Club boot)
Mountains (long version)
The Cross
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Paisley Park (long version)
Strange Relationship (from One Night Alone Live)
Empty Room
Million Days
If I Had A Harem
13 (Madhouse remix)
Yes (The Family)

He likes it so much he burned it for another one of my Deadhead friends. Everytime I see him now he is asking all about Prince and all the side projects.

Those are some good choices. (I particularly like "strange relationship" from ONA.) One question - which version of "the ride"?

From Crystal Ball...only because its the clearest. I like the Undertaker version better...but the copy I have isn't the best quality in the world.

I love this kind of thing. It's a challenge. I passed along a copy of 'small club' and the 'Black album' for a supposed big prince fan. I never got a reaction. It still bums me out.

Nothing cooler than introduciing someone to great new Prince stuff.
Cherubrocker: if you've got an open door with your friend. Hit'm over the head with some of these other list.

It is so much fun. I've turned on a few people to David Bowie by playing something else other then the songs you would usually hear in a rotation. Talking Heads is good for that to.

As for the other lists. "The Ride" is so cool so far. I don't have most of the other tracks though. -_-
