According to what I read, they divorced in 1996, but stayed together and told the press they were married in their hearts or something. In 1999 they were through and he married Manuela Tessalini(did I get that right?). Freaky that they probably were having sex when she was still 16.

The real problem of course, IMHO, was the death of Boy Gregory. Prince handled it ina completely different way than she did (he seemed at least on the public face of it, to not truly mourn Gregory's death, but to give his grief to God - as most Christians do. There is the biblical admonition that we should "not grieve as the heathen do as without hope..." - and I think that perhaps Mayte wanted/needed, or possibly was experiencing, a degree of grief that Prince was, in his budding Jehovah's Witness state, uncomfortable with. He doesn't provide her with an outlet for her grief, and along comes a guy he she can, at least temporarily on a physical level, connect with. Prince holds onto her because he loves her. (If there is any doubt regarding this fact, read the wedding program, watch the Oprah interview(s), not the overall change in the man's behavior... he did THE MUPPET SHOW for crying out loud!!!!) She cheats... somehow he finds out o she confesses and he tries to forgive, but the root problem is never solved. Finally... "I love you but I don't trust you anymore." She leaves.

It's sad really. I've never more strongly believed that two people were meant for each other.

Of course... this is all speculation.
