Who's the "Next Prince"?

In your eyes, who has come the closest to being the "next" Prince??...

D'Angelo??...Not in my eyes...he doesn't have the eclecticism in his music, nor the vision or innovation...

Beck??...Closer, but still not sure...not to mention that, at least to me, the "next Prince" will be a commercial force, at least for awhile, as well as a crossover success in addition to the musical artistry and innovation...Beck so far has yet to achieve either of those things...

So does it look like Prince will truly be the "one and only", or will another charismatic, unique, enigmatic, obscenely talented and amazingly popular musical artist come along like Prince did and help propel the music scene forward like he did??..

Difficult question, one with no real answer at this point. Prince has certainly been one of the most important innovators of the past quarter century, and in my opinion he has done as much for music as an art form as Miles Davis, Santana, or Hendrix. Will there be other artists down the road who will alter the face of the musical landscape as much as Prince has? Certainly. But if you were to ask me "Will there be another Prince?" I say no, there will never be another musician like him. There will be other geniuses, and there will be other virtuosos, but I think it extremely unlikely that anyone could do everything Prince did, do it better, and then go beyond what he did and is still doing, I would point out.

And, if you think about it, will there ever NEED to be another artist like him? Prince's vault grows with every recording he makes, and I honestly think that even after he has passed to the next life, his music will carry on the journey his body could not. Prince will be with us through his music forever.

We won't have to search for the next Prince, because our one true Prince will be with us always.

Peace B Wild,
Mike

Mike I could not have said it better myself. Sure there is room for other artist to come that may be like our current Prince, but did you notice "be like". Anyone who is to come after in my opinion can only copy what has already been done and by the way my Brother in the Faith Prince seems to constantly be on the go and change. So by the time someone new catches up to where he is now, he will be on the next level Searching for the New Higher NU-Soul. NPG Music Club file Audio Show #4 said it best "God knows what he (Prince) has in that vault".

So they may come after but will never be as unique and enlightening as our man Prince has ever been and will continue to be. Brother Nelson I look forward to speaking with you again like I did in 1999 about the Faith on April 9th soundcheck NYC.

I don't think there will be a next Prince.
Any others will be sad imitations.

I think it's important for artists to develop their own style(s), and chances are I won't be interested in any Prince-like artists anyway...they come across as fakers to me.

If there's gonna be another talented musician helping to propel the music forward (again), they're gonna do it completely on their own terms, and they're gonna have to be totally original and relevant.

Beck and D'Angelo don't even come remotely close to that, in my opinion.

The general feeling with me is that one Prince is more than enough. I mean, most of the public have yet to 'catch up' to him and his groundbreaking work. They simply aren't ready for it....and those (many) artists that are influenced by Prince sort of show it in their music, but mostly put out the bland crap they need for sales or image or whatever.

Nobody has been daring enough to break down the doors that Prince has. And precious few have been 'ready' to hear it.

Remy Shand is hot, and he plays multiple instruments like P does. He always gets that Prince/Maxwell comparison.
But I have to say there 's only one Hendrix, 1 BB, 1 Miles, 1 Ellington, One Prince...

That would be your's truly.

NOT!!!!

I may play my fair share of "Rock" instruments and sing like a true Androgene, but the universe decided to bless me with 2 left feet. I wish I possessed 1/millionth of the talent Prince has looming in any one of his delicate little toe's.

All the Pretenders ain't got !#@$ on Prince.

I just hope he come's to OZ some time soon and kicks my ass.
12 years has proved a long time to wait, and from what y'all say a video/CD just ain't no substitute for the real 'Live' Prince experience.

Personally I don't think there will be another musician as versatile as Prince. He creates exciting music and has a definite stage presence!!!!

when his motown debut comes out in the US, cop it. a very, very good album. from what i understand, motown was going to release a different first single in the US but whatever.

remy's from my part of town. same high school, same hood. nice guy. extremely soulful. genuine. mad potential. still not the next prince. very much a hybrid of stevie, marvin and prince.

wifey says he's like the white maxwell. heh, heh.

Who knows? Maybe Prince will one day be blessed with a son and we will have a future PRINCE JR! Kinda like a Ziggy Marley /Bob Marley thing--I am sure Prince would teach his son everything he knows!!

Unfortunately, nobody appeared that had P´s musicianship and creativity
Dangelo is talented, but repetitive and not original. Besides he doesnt blend styles so well as P
Lenny Kravitz is talented, play rythm instruments well and writes nice songs, but isnt as bold as P...
Well, we will have to wait and see....people like Stevie Wonder, Prince and Frank Zappa are very unique....it´s not easy to find musicians and songwriters on the same level
