Is Prince CRAZY????

Just to think I will still play Musicology 20 years down the line, just like I am right now, 19 years after it's release, playing Girls And Boys so loud it must hurt the neighbours?

Well, what do you have to say for yourself, Mr Nelson?

Huh? Speak up, I can't hear you!

So, what is the difference in the degree of phatness in these two joints? Is it just he got old or is it just I?

I mean, I feel old, still liking his old material better than most of his recent material.

Or perhaps he needs to drag his tiny beind to Europe and cater me that Musicology live food. I heard it's good.

Moved over to Feel U Up, which is inferior to Girls & Boys, but has that same oomph that Musicology has, just tighter.

You know the drill here folks. Prince's new music sucks, the old music's way better, he needs to get his ass in gear, fuck Larry, etc, etc. You can move along now.

Uhm, you do not know me, are assuming and prejudiced.
Did I miss something? Just answer the questions in the original thread or be gone, you off-topic baiter!

To all you uptight Prince-neurotics, please understand this is not meant to bait. This is a valid question, packaged in something called sarcasm, sumthing some of you would not recognise if it bit your ass.

Now that was a bait.

But serious, is Prince carzy or am I? Or are we both?

No! To me I think he's 100% Sane. I'm Way CRAZIER and anyone who thinks his GENIUS is CRAZY is a FROOT LOOP! I think he's FUN and DIFFERENT and remember an ARTIST who PRECEIVES and INTERPRETES. He's got his Way of DOING THINGS that's ALL. He has his REASONS even if SOMETIMES they are MISCONSTRUED or we GET UPSET. It's His World and we are VISITING It when he INVITES US FANs INSIDE. DIG? Non-Fans think WE ARE ALL BOTS in the hEAD. FREAK THEM...

Okay, let me try again.

In my opinion I think he still makes amazing music. He is better than he has ever been live. I just think Musicology is a step back.

Fifteen years of kicking against establishment, of doing whatever he wanted to do and now he is back, playing the media. By doing this he proves my point; he needs the media and commercial sounding music to be popular by a huge audience, that want to hear him play his hits, which are not necesarily the songs I would like to hear myself.

Musicology is the kind of album that Diamonds & Pearls was and to a certain degree The Gold Experience. Prince makes his most popular albums when challenged to perform and make big bucks. All it needs is him making a certain effort; sticking with the publicity machine. And Prince still knows how to make bestselling hits.

The problem I have with Musicology is that is does not burn into my memory as easily as the aforementioned Girls And Boys. I was wondering why that was.

It is easy to just jack the thread and piss on it, but that is not why I created it. I am really wondering what, besides me as well as Prince growing old is the reason for the different degrees of emotions that his music are able to awaken in me.
Last song to do it was One Nite Alone, which is a superb song. So I know he still has the power to touch me. Even when he makes music that does not appeal to me much, that voice draws me back in...

Hated Diamonds & Pearls and The Gold Experience but love Musicology.

Isn't his best-selling album in Europe (since Purple Rain), Lovesexy?

I agree with Huey.

The new stuff isn't "Bad"--it just isn't great.
Purple Rain, 1999 and the majority of the 80's output will be played by many orgers for years and years to come. But Rave, TRC, and the like just won't get much play.

Strangely, Emancipation is really aging well on me--sure I skip some songs, but I skip songs even on Sign of The Times.

I think Lovesexy was a lot to do with the tour. By '88 Prince had reached God status in Europe, and the tour seemed to consolidate that.
I have to agree with original post above. Where his grooves in the 80's seemed genuinely perverse, unique and nasty, his grooves these days seem laboured and hastily thrown together. For someone 'living in the now', musical history seems to be looming large in Prince's music where it didn't before.
"don't u miss the feeling music gave u back in the day?".
"meet me in another world, space and joy. vouz a tres belle mama girls and boys"
"Prince don't hear Ravel when he wanna make love to his woman. He hears drums and shit." Miles Davis

Should we take that to mean that the 80's alone is the old stuff or anything before TRC? Who's Larry?
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.
