"the stage aint no place fo yo personal shit man!!" "the stage aint no place fo yo personal shit man!!" as billy sparks said. holding a cigar walking downtown
it's weird doesn't anyone think that we have been watching purple rain being played out over the past few years. the break up of the revolution , then the cryptic message on emancipation for the song , "in this bed i scream" dedicated to wendy and lisa , the divinity thing with the demo was like wendy and lisa's tape in the movie and he reacted in the same way. also him starting to do music people didn't dig anymore and bringing personal stuff into the music. all this is so like the movie. at least it had sexual energy behind it and he wasn't telling white people "lynch" the first thing i liked about prince was that the band was totally mixed on all levels of race and sexuality and that was the success of it. there were 2 dejected punkish lesbian like chicks who smoked , dr fink keyboard wizard , dez dickerson , brown mark , sheila e (kind of in the band) and prince superfreak and not quite sure what he was , black white puerto rican (just a freakin) or if he was stright or gay . it was all mixed up. THATS WHAT WORKED!!!!! ANYONE AND EVERYONE BLACK WHITE STRAIGHT GAY FREAKY SAD HAPPY WHATEVER COULD RELATE. thats why when he went very r&b alot of folks didn't identify anymore. his mix in music used to be more varied ROCK , POP , BLUES , JAZZ , FUNK , EVEN REGGAE , BALLADS , PSYCHEDELIC JAMS , ELECTRONICA (which personally i think is his best) AND MANY OTHER STYLES OF MUSIC. if this is all like the movie then i'm waiting for the part when the revolution get their problems sorted out and go on to do amazing new things in an exciting new age.....

He said he would in one of the soundchecks...I think everyone needs to see this show...yeah, he gets a bit preachy but you'll forgive him because he's still damn fonky... Have you heard TRC? Have you been to the concert? The music is new and fresh and unlike that of anything that he has done before. You don't think that his current band is diverse in talent and ethnic mix?

I am not saying u r wrong 2 not want 2 hear old songs again live, but why r people so obsessed with that? U can probably find a gig on bootleg with that song on it somewhere??? Also the setlists r everchanging, would it not b boring if we read the setlist here and there were no surprises? There r sooooo many songs I would love 2 hear him play, from the new album and old ones, but most of all I want it 2 b spontanious The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

i'm not after old songs i'm after new ones but it would be nice to hear some old ones now and again.
imagine aretha franklin saying i will never sing respect again. or stevie wonder saying i'l never sing superstition ever again.or madonna sying i'll never sing holday again. these are the songs that endeared us to these people. my point wasn't really about that though it was about an attitude that he/they had that had street cred . that is why madonna at 43 is still making music thats played in peoples apartments , on the streets , in clubs , by djs and listened to people from kids to grand ma's. what a joy to know people are listening freely to your music.and not that a few members who keep biting each others heads off are the only people that know what u are doing.

I think PM1 made a great and very well expressed point with this topic. Prince WAS all inclusive early on, one of the main things that attracted me 2 his act and gave me an outlet for my sense of alienation in the small (minded) town I grew up in. He was building on the Sly and the Family Stone concept and breaking down the unecassary and overemphasized barriers that people make between musical styles (and lifestyles, too, for that matter).
I dig the new stuff too, and OTA rocked. I won't, however, come along for a G-rated quasi-religous experience just because he wants too. I gotta' be free too.

Refusing to listen to music a fellow bandmember asks you to check out is ENTIRELY different than a complete stranger with purple hair and homemade costume asking you to accept a "gift" at a soundcheck. There are immense legal ramifications there. Please don't compare Wendy/Lisa's situation in the movie to Divinity's thing.....

Prince does have a diverse band. Renato,Candy, Rhonda, Blackwell
Prince is doing music that "makes sense to no one but himself" Billy said that other quote when he came in to the dressing rom to break it down to Prince, not while smoking a cigar walking down the street.. I dont think he (Prince)has ever formally said who cant come to the party. "Climb in my fur."

Not quite. "Divinity6" was never in his band. also him starting to do music people didn't dig anymore and bringing personal stuff into the music. all this is so like the movie.
Oddly enough, people still pay a lot of money to go to his concerts. Even those who aren't part of his NPGMC. And he's always had personal stuff in his music. This isn't new. at least it had sexual energy behind it and he wasn't telling white people "lynch"
Welcome to Prince circa 2002. the first thing i liked about prince was that the band was totally mixed on all levels of race and sexuality and that was the success of it.
The first thing I noticed was how the music sounded. I'm weird like that. his mix in music used to be more varied
ROCK , POP , BLUES , JAZZ , FUNK , EVEN REGGAE , BALLADS , PSYCHEDELIC JAMS , ELECTRONICA (which personally i think is his best) AND MANY OTHER STYLES OF MUSIC. There is, quite frankly, everything on TRC that you mentioned, sans the reggae. It's there. if this is all like the movie then i'm waiting for the part when the revolution get their problems sorted out..
Don't bet on it. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

also him starting to do music people didn't dig anymore and bringing personal stuff into the music. all this is so like the movie. That sums up the role of an artist quite well. Creating a personal interpretation of the world and bringing it to the stage, so to speak. So with all due respect to Billy Sparks, I would say, "Keep following your inspiration and leave the personal shit in the music". Brendan
