Yea or Nay - National Anthem

I'm not sure he would because he is a Witness, but would you like to see Prince sing the National Anthem at a NBA game?

He wouldn't do it cause he's a JW now, but even then he never would. It doesn't fit the artsy, stylish, mysterious character of Prince at all. Too hokey.

well if he did, that rockets red glare note would be a scream reminiscint of something in the water (does not compute) and the land of the free note would be a falsetto note that would break glass.

See only some people understand prince's style. Prince is like sushi, you either like him or you don't. You can't kinda like sushi.

I would love to see him perform "AMERICA" live -- but not the national anthem.

HWNBOI56 - I loved your quote and it inspired me to create a picture. biggrin sushi sake

He could do it, and then play "Cinnamon Girl" and "Dear Mr. Man" afterwards...

Janet's "nipplegate" would be nothing compared with that... biggrin

Anyway, I'm not from the U.S., so maybe I shouldn't give an opinion here, because it's not that common in Europe to sing a national anthem in a sports event anyway.

I imagine it would sound like "God" with all the echo effects and screeching. wink
Seriously, I would hope that Prince would give a clean performance and leave out the special effects and tend to make the Anthem 10 minutes long. smile

I don't think he ever would but I would love to hear him do a serious rendition.
That song is a hard one to sing and with his range...I bet he could do a killer version of it.

Hmm...I'm kinda struck by these couldn't be cornier or cheesier comments....I've never thought of anyone doing the national anthem as corny b4.
I've seen pattie label, aretha franklin, stephen tyler, and countless others do it and I never heard of them as being corny...
anyone care to explain why it would be so cheesy or corny if Prince did it?

I can see Prince doing a very good job singing the national anthem.

Ofcourse, I can also see Prince marrying Bobby Brown and squandering his reputation away smokin' blunts all day and visiting courtrooms to "support his man."

I'd like 2 see him do a Hendrix style guitar version. That would be something worth watching. Might make me feel a tad bit patriotic 4 once.

I was asking the same question myself! I'd love to see him sing it at an appropriately major special event, but I suspect it will never happen and I also won't think any the worse of him for that. nod

I wouldn't like him to.

He would do a good job, but I don't think he'd ever do it.

Now, if he decided he wanted to do the Canadian anthem, I'd pay good money to hear that. biggrin nod

I want to see Prince at the next season Super Bowl!!!

This is so sad that the NFL never ask this artist to perform at the Super Bowl.

How about Prince performing "America" at the NBA Finals or the NFL Super Bowl? That would give the FCC something to think about.
