Never Understood re SOTT: Was the video reshot....... .....or was it the audio after the fact? I know one of the two was re-recorded at Paisley Park, but which one and was it all or nothing??? What was really recorded live in front of a European audience????

My understanding of the SOTT movie is as follows:
The original plan was to release it with completely live audio and video. However Prince was unhappy with the quality of the filming of the European shows, so he decided to re-shoot the show at Paisley Park (miming the audio from the European show). Only very few shots from the European show were used in the final cut (the scenes of the large crowds etc). After that they may have added a few overdubs, but what you hear in the final movie is essentially the original live recording. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! Yeah, I was a bit freaked the first time I saw the "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night" performance -- how's he able to sing two different parts at the same time?
But I guess if I was to commit a concert-film to tape for all-time, I'd probably fine-tune it as well. It's not worth trying to figure out what's what -- I noticed that the same video clips of the audience appear a few different times in the film (bic lighters this second, and no bic lighters the next second) -- funny stuff like that. But it's best not to think about all that, and just enjoy the concert as if it were all true. It's probably the last time we'll ever see Prince move and act like that; though, he made a good attempt during the Diamonds & Pearls era. It sure is good to be able to go back and enjoy the fun.

It's not even meant to be realistic. Just think of that "Hey, Cat! Won't you let me take you out tonight?" comment.
