Controversy

Was talking to a friend about this last week and we weren't sure whatever happened to Controversy Magazine (Eileen Murton?) which in the pre-internet world was a great source of Prince info! and had a thriving community as I recall..

This has been mentioned at length on here many times, however the simple facts are that Prince wanted to take control of the magazine, Eileen refused, and Prince's legal team forced the mag to close.

Eileen then moved on to run a ticket agency in Croydon and has had nothing to do with Prince since.

Thanks for that, too bad it ended like that

Unfortunately that's been the way for almost every Prince magazine / newletter / fan organisation

sad

Not that it makes it right, but to be fair one of the reasons why Prince is so interesting is that he controls and creates all his own music and image - he's a control freak. So him trying to control what is said and written about him is inevitably part of the package, the nature of the beast. If people running these magazines didn't understand that, they hadn't understood his character. I don't think Prince is being malicious when he does these things - he just can't comprehend why everything can't be exactly the way he wants it or under his control.

I can see your point , but weren't Prince and Eileen friendly once ie controversy members got front row seats or something?

It's also a Prince trait, sadly, that he ditches friends on a regular basis. If you enter Prince's camp, you can expect to only have a limited time-span.

Just trying to say that is all part of the nature of Prince, the scorpion and the frog crossing the river fable scenario.
