People's opinions and attitudes change over the years. Just because he disagreed with that sort of thing in 1976 doesn't mean he felt the same in 1986. Perhaps when listening to the benefits it brought people like the Beatles and Hendrix, he thought he'd have a dabble - who really knows? There are many examples of drug references in Prince's music - both positive and negative.
