I wouldn't lose respect for him. I just hope it never happens, particularly on a Prince album.

for real! i agree i can't stand him i mean dag he's so overrated and it really is mostly commercialized stuff. I mean even when like almost every girl at my skool has his cd and was all over him and whatnot, i still just don't feel him, besides some people say i was born in da wrong decade anyway (cause i m always listening to stuff from the 80s and whateva)

same with gwen stefani's solo album.
both are excellent artists in my opinion

I agree, there's one song on Usher's album that i really thought was the begining of "The Beautiful Ones"
Doesn't it make you smile when you realize no one was there to see the stupid thing you just did?

Prince always thinks outside of the box and sometimes it has pleased some (fans, industry, etc.) and other times...not so much. I think the question is...not whether we (I) would lose respect (which I would never do) but be disappointed again, as most of have found ourselves at some point during his career. That is the genuis...experimenting and creating...and maybe wondering how others will receive it and just maybe doing it anyway! twocents

If he were to collaborate with Usher or anyone...I would have to check it out and see! wink

I lost a lot of respect for him when he collaborated with those artists on "Rave". It also made me sick when I saw him perform with Beyonce.

Whenever he finally does totally give in to today's music and start making the same kind of music as they do, I'll be through with him.

I don't see it would be a bad thing.

Prince has always worked with manufactured acts, I don't like the music Usher is the front for, I don't listen to that kind of stuff, it's just a trend, but it's nothing new or bad - Prince working with Usher - I probably wouldn't like the music they came up with, but it wouldn't make me lose respect for Prince.

Personally I only see Prince collabing with 'real' artist (no disrespect to Usher, he's a result of the 'music machine' but he's hard working and talented) like Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Anthony Hamilton or even Angie Stone again.

I actually don't think I know any songs by him. I don't listen to the radio nor watch MTV. Funny, I get most of my music info here biggrin. So, I can't comment on Ushers music, but I do see him as part of the machine of names and faces in the entertainment industry. I think though that if he had anything good, I would have heard it by now, like the same way I heard OutKast's last one.

nutty Thats what the hell that sounded like-- I've been tryin to figure it out for months.

Just because Usher doesn't write his own music, and the fact that he's an overglorified MJ impersonator (Take heed of the pennyloafs, white socks, and those fuckin glasses i wanna knock right off his face)

Does that mean that i cant pump that damn album when no one's listening? I dont particularly care for Usher, but i dont give a damn who sings/writes the songs, as long as they make me wiggle my booty!

I hate to admit it, but I....I like that album. disbelief boxed

In answer to the topic at hand, I would not lose respect for P. Have we lost memory of the Tevin Campbell collabs?

That was a billion times worse.

I personally dont care who sings the man's songs, as long as its done well.

And why is Beyonce so intolerable? I think some of the orgers just feel such repulsion toward anyone with mass appeal-- Somebody has to entertain the minors. Many of you just wrote that you never even heard their product-- so what is that saying?

If they weren't going pop, somebody else would, so why dont we just appreciate the fact that these people can actually carry a tune, unlike the countless others?
exhibit A--

exhibit B--

Maybe its just me shrug-- I would lose respect if the collaborator were hopelessly talentless, yet popular.

P.S.-- Britney Spears greatest hits-- gimme a damn break---
Britney Spears, greatest tits.

I wouldn't lose any respect for Prince, but I would question his motives. He's work with people who have even less talent than Ursher: Vanity, Apollonia - but at least he was gettin' some tail out of that deal. I don't know what he'd get outta working with the MJ wannabe.

My first post stated it could really be any artist...not just Usher. I meant of his ilk or any other manufactured band/artist that was hot at the moment.
