Heh. Anyway. I live in Minnesota, though, on the South-Eastern half. In March, my family and I have to go up to the cities (Minneapolis). And just this morning at breakfast, my dad told me he'd take me to see First Avenue!!!!! Agh, I was ecstatic! I still am! I can't go inside (I'm only 15) but... as long as I see the outside, it's fine with me.

Anywho.


Has anyone else been there? What's it like! I'm so excited!

Hi! It is nice to meet you and of course you are welcome here! I have never been to first ave but I hear it has become kind of run down since it's Prince days. I hope to move to Minneapolis this year in August. Since you live around there, maybe you could help me out with some things. Send me an org note if you want! Nice to see a young one of the forums!!!

I'm sixteen and I haven't been there yet. Tell me how it is. I either plan to move to Minnie or London. (I live in NYC and think Mpls might be a little to small (and cold) for my taste) If I do move there I'll go to First Ave.

You can get into First Avenue if you're under age. Just get tix for an all ages show. First Avenue hasn't gotten run down, It's always been that way. It's a wonderful shit-hole.

First Avenue is one of my favorite places. As a MPLS native who embraced live music early-on in life, I have pretty much grown-up at the club.

It is dark, a bit dirty, a bit run down. But it doesn't really matter. On a good night it draws the most eclectic of crowds and is just a blast. Since reopening after the 'fall-closing-crisis' they have actually cleaned-up the bar quite a bit. AND they've added fancy things like doors on the bathroom stalls.

It barely resembles the First Ave of Purple Rain fame but they have a few reminders of Prince to make 'us' happy.

I started going there when I was 15. As squirrelgrease mentioned, look at their calendar and see if there's an all-age event scheduled when you'll be in town.

PS- since you'll be in town, make sure you check-out the Prince 'exhibit' outside The Hard Rock cafe on the 2nd floor of Block E, right across from First Ave. They have a lot of fun items on display!

Besides having all ages shows from time to time it is a little known fact that anyone of any age can get into First Ave on any night if they are accompanied by their legal parent or guardian! So your Dad could take you inside! I would call and make sure that this is still the case and there would be no hassle but I know that this has been their policy.

In other First Ave news there is apparently a Prince night happening January 26th in the VIP room (a small room in the club ususlly used for DJ/Dance music etc..) This is from the website: The MN Prince Fan Club Presents...

I feel so blessed to live in Minnesota, and to know Prince's city is only an hour away makes me just want to run around the house and bounce off the walls. Hehehe! My heart just races thinking about it!
