Y No 'Prince' at Tsunami Relief Benefit Show?

I find it odd that 'Prince' would show up to present awards, for which he really doesn't care for...instead of performing at the Tsunami Relief Benefit for NBC!

Why would our lil 'Prince' skip an opportunity to perform one of his beautiful songs live on national television in support of the thousands of ppl who have lost their lives and for those survivors who needs shelter and food!

It would have been really cool to see Prince perform 'A Million Days' or 'Gold', or maybe even team up with Wendy again for the USA For Africa Contribution '4 The Tears In Your Eyes'...which wouldve been great!

Prince where are you?

I agree. Prince is missing a major oppurtunity to reach out. What a bummer. neutral

I got a suspicion that Mani may be behind all these award show appearances

Some of us pick our "charity" work a little more carefully, I think. That's all I'll say about that.

Those charity appearances are a lot more about maintaining celebrity status and appearing to seem concerned to avoid criticism.

I'm glad Prince usually stays out of it. If someone wants to donate money, why would an appearance by a celebrity encourage it? Does that mean they will only donate if they are getting entertained in return? It's not like the Tsunami is some untrendy cause that needs the publicity to promote it.

I'd rather have celebrities do a benefit for, say, Malaria relief which kills more people than Tsunami's year on year AND can actually be prevented. But they don't because it isn't trendy.

we all should know by now that Prince does whatever he wants when he feels like it. And that if he is ever going to decide to do something, it is very last minute...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

its a shame that a catastrophic disaster happens and you
are using it for a chance to see Prince perform.
Prince has probably made quite a substantial donation anyway.
Maybe ive picked you up wrong but thats how i read into your post.

There are ALOT of "A" list musical performers that were TURNED DOWN for this NBC Special. So, perhaps Prince may be included in this list....Furthermore, EVERYONE should set their vcr's for Jan. 20th, and watch as our GREAT president in swore in, yet again, for another 4 YEARS!!! biggrin

One needn't be on NBC to help with relief efforts.

If I wanted to see Prince perform, I'd throw on a DVD or VHS!
I'm only asking why Prince doesn't choose to do these kind of benefits...other than award shows for network television shows!

Its just a question, I had to ask...I'm not excited about Prince performing for such a sad occassion...I'm excited he's on the golden globes thou!

Now, lets hope to see Prince on the 2005 Grammys and release that Tour DVD!

The Grammy Award people don't look kindly on musicians that
make TV performances prior to The Grammy Show.
Perhaps that is why there are no Prince musical appearances these days.

Wasn't the Hong Kong show he performed at a benefit for SARS? He just gave $30,000 to a school in Minneapolis, and I'm not sure where all the money went from his Love4OneAnother charity, but I think $20,000 of it went to a town in North Carolina after hurricane or tornado damage.
As many have pointed out, it seems Prince prefers to keep his charitable giving pretty quiet.
Maybe it's just me, but many of the stars at this benefit, especially George Clooney, seem to feel so self-important for doing this when in fact Americans have donated something like $300 million dollars already.
On a sad note, I missed Madonna singing Imagine. Darnit. lol

cool Does anybody even know if Prince did give a donation? He is the type of person that could have donated money & wanted to keep it private. Not everyone wants the world to know how much money they give to charities.

he also gave to Sheila's foundation (in private) Sheila is the one who revealed that donation. Prince has never been the one to exploit his donation all over the news....

EVERY celebrity in the world can't be on every telethon. I'm sure he has his reasons & has given privately. I'm not gonna point fingers @ him b/c if I did I'd have to point @ countless other celebs. What's the point?
