The Most Beautiful Girl In the World

The Most Beautiful Girl In the World

Prince - 'Beautiful' promo video (1994)

© PRN Productions

I find it odd that whenever we talk of love songs, the most common ones that are mentioned are “Adore”, “Insatiable”, “When 2 R In Love”, and “Condition of The Heart”. To me these songs are great, and top notch love songs, but “The Most Beautiful Girl In the World” competes with each of them very well.

It’s slow enough to be romantic, but joyous enough to be absolutely celebratory. The version I’m most impressed with is the version that appears in the Video and on “The Beautiful Experience” Maxi-Single. The instrumentation is precise, bright, and well chosen. The beat and pulse of the song sounds as if he was in a love stricken state of elation when he wrote it, and you can feel it when he sings “You’re The Reason That God Made A Girl”.

Of all the Prince loves songs, this is one of favorites consistently.

Do you feel the same way? Or do think this song is just another casualty of a failed “Dawn” ?

Also, does his the manner in which he dresses in the video and indication of any latent homosexual tendencies?

he looks like a walking wedding cake in that video.

never been a fan of the song, though i don't mind the remix. i think i've listened to my beautiful experience ep/single thingie about two times, though i really like the packaging, i'll admit.

of the recordings of gold-era concerts i've heard, i think that this song drags down the energy of the live sets...and why did it sound like it was always performed pre-recorded?

I don't mind the song. It is sweet. The album version being better then the single/ video edit. That video was horrible though.....

I like the lyrics.....

There's also a video of the remix version , where 1 band member (don't know his name) is lipsynching to P's voice , i always thought that was really strange

It's one of his best songs of the nineties. It is a classic soul ballad with fantastic vocals. It's the standout track on gold experience.

it's crap but i don't mind it. there's kind of a DIY-underground look to it, which i think went well with that point in his career...especially considering the song sounds ANYthing but DIY/underground.

His most incredible vocal performance ever. At one time, I wouldve called this my favorite song ever. It has since been surpassed forever by The Beautiful Ones.

I never got into the original single/album version that much (I prefer ANd God Created Woman, which I think it evolved out of), but I love the Beautiful Experience disk. It's amazing that it works as a whole - u can listen 2 the seven versions from end-to-end (xcept I always skip the album version).

What's far more amazing is a serious, articulate thread started by AB! Even the quintessential sex-reference is serious-ish. And, altho noone's really answered the q. No, the video doesn't make him seem gay, just a dick!

It is a very, very excellent song, though I think it sounds too much made for the masses/the charts. Like a very calculated chart success to get the career of prince started. It is a Prince/prince classic, but I like many tracks on TGE better (just personal taste). May also be that I heard the song a little bit too often.

However, it would have been an extremely strong first single for the TGE project, if he just had the chance to release the whole album earlier (short after the single's release), but I think it didn't work due to the whole Warner/contract thing.

Also, does his the manner in which he dresses in the video and indication of any latent homosexual tendencies?

No, absolutely not, we straight guys wear similar clothes and have similar hairdos almost every day of the week, especially when we go to work...
