I have 2 versions of If I Had A Harem, one a slightly cheesy one, and one a bluesy demo, with pronce accompanying himaelf on acoustic guitar.

They feature on the Works cd collection.

Letter 4 Miles?

Are these real or fake?

Letter 4 Miles - I think this is the wrong name, or it is listed as another title sometimes.

Wow is from the I'll Do Anything sessions (very cheesy)

Lips 2 Find U is not a Prince song, it is on Teena Marie's Emerald City LP, and was *rumoured* to be by Prince, but in fact is not.

Thanks. I've also been listening to Journey 2 The Centre Of Your Heart and can't seem to find where it's from. Sounds like a released track to me, but from where? It's not on Emancipation is it? I don't think so.

So do u know what the miles track is called? I remember another name but I can't remember it.

Journey 2 The Centre Of Your Heart is an Emancipation outtake. Chaka Khan covered it, and it was officially released on her Come 2 My House album.

Here we are, I did a search in Google and it came up with an excerpt from Uptown's Turn It Up v2.0:

An instrumental tribute to Miles Davis, recorded by Prince and Michael Bland on September 30th 1991, two days after Davis' death. A horn arrangement by The Hornheadz was added later. Prince improvises on piano and synth around a fluid bassline and Bland's subtle drums. "It isn't solemn at all," comments Bland. "Prince just told me, 'We're gonna swing it.' I didn't know the title or that it had anything to do with Miles." The piece could have fit very well on the first Madhouse album. Although sometimes referred to as "Miles Is Not Dead," the correct title is "Letter 4 Miles."

Does anybody know anything about Uh-huh? What's the link with Coca-cola?

Also, are there decent quality version of A Case Of U from intimate moments going around?

My copy of 17 Days sounds good but this one is awful.

Also, while I'm here. The piano version of Purple Rain isn't called that is it? Not at that time, so what was the title of it?

First chance you guys get, invest in Uptown's DMSR / Turn It Up / Days Of Wild.

If every Prince fan owned these, there wouldn't be a lot of the questions that occur here over and over, like "what was the tracklist to Camille/Crystal Ball etc, etc). smile

I have about four different versions of "Computer Blue".The version with the "hallway speech" is the original,full-length version that was gonna appear on the 'Purple Rain' album.Prince shortened it to make room for "Take Me With U" on the album.

The other versions are mostly instrumental and they do not contain the hallway speech. There are also some differences with the vocals. These seem to be rough demo versions.

Anybody have any more info to add?

The only "rough" demo version of 'Computer Blue' available is the St. Louis Park Warehouse recording featuring all that lovely feedback at the end. This one is the longest version out of the four, clocking in at (13:28 ) and is the earliest recording of all.

The remaining three are all studio versions, the longest(#3) being (12:23) in length. This one does not feature the "hallway speech".

Yes, beautiful, except for howlers like "Mindbells", "Bliss", "Number One", "Undercover Lover", "Play", "Oobey Doop", "My Tree", "A Positive Place" and "Tony's Iggnant Mix", all from the glorious 1989-1991 period. What on earth was he thinking?

Nothing in his later catalogue (including "Livin' 2 Die" from 1996) has proven be quite as nauseating or as vomit-inducing...

However posting titles of fake songs is not welcomed - do not post unless you're absolutely certain that the track in question IS something recorded by Prince. A lot of the titles found on collections like "The Work" are confirmed fakes and should be eliminated from circulation.

There is only one confirmed fake on The Work, the so called acoustic demo of "If I Had A Harem".
And this track has been noted and listed in Turn It Up 2.0 as a fake, and all other tracks on The Work are listed and confirmed as legit in Turn It Up 2.0

First of all, there's no such thing as a 10:52 instrumental from the 1982 sessions called 'Divinity'.
Most likely, it is 'Lust U Always [instrumental]' from 1984, which is 10:27 in length, approximately. It was already further down on your list.

There is no instrumental version of Lust U Always. This will be made evident if ever the real "Lust U Always" shows up on a bootleg (don't hold your breath, though.) They sound nothing alike. It was named that by a bootlegger trying to drum up interest in his collection. The instrumental is and should continued to be referred to as Divinity until Prince gives word to the contrary.

There are musical similarities between the vocal version of "Lust U Always" and the circulating instrumental. It might be that he later recorded a very different version of "Lust U Always" from which that instrumental stems from.

PEOPLE WITHOUT - 12 MINUTE STUDIO VERSION (fake)

I haven't heard the faked version of this, but there IS a People Without studio take featuring Boni...

Narrominded!

Was most impressed by your personalised Prince Outtake collection on 28 cdrs, way to go, dude!

However, I did notice you appear to be missing a few outtakes, particularly from the 'Lovesexy' era, namely stuff like:

'Intermission' (4:48 )[NOT from the live shows, but the straight studio playback], as well as 'Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?' (6:16) [the version Prince sent Michael Jackson]

Just thought I'd bring back this old thread of mine to the recent postings list for a while (rhymes doesn't it?). I've had several people asking me for a complete list of outtakes and just figured there must exist more people amongst the .org ranks that would like to see such a list.

If somebody wants to do a complete update for this list based on expertise please go ahead.

In the same vein as the 'Camille' tracks, complete with kooky speeded up vocals. And recorded around the same era too.

I have a copy of Prince singing Uh Huh! Apparently from 1991. Prince wrote the song for Ray Charles for use in a Pepsi Light commercial. According to the liner notes, Prince received $7 million for the song.

I also have a recording of Prince singing Oh Mary Don't You Weep - recorded on 26/6/94.

Yesss! my first posting.

P.S. The above lists will be very useful. Thanx.
