Ride Divine

I tried asking this question on NPGMC and it looks like it got deleted. What is this song? A buddy of mine has it on a mix-cd that he burned from someone else. I KNOW its Prince-related just by the sound of it. I am guessing now it was never released since the NPGMC-nazi's deleted my post...but I am just curious on what it is? Who was involved? It sounds like NPG/Symbol era but I don't recognize the singer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's either called "Let's Do It" or "The Ride Divine"

There's a woman (don't know who) in there and Prince is also singing

'The Ryde Dyvine' was the b-side to the MPLS single
which was released for like 7 minutes back in 1993.

"Ryde Dyvine" is a track from the MPLS project. MPLS was a group put together as a showcase for Sonny T and first appeared on the December 1992 ABC special "Act II - The Ryde Dyvine" as 'The Crayons'. Singer Jana Anderson also appeared as a co-lead singer on both "Ryde Dyvine" and "Minneapolis" a track which later appeared on the 1800NEWFUNK compilation. A promo CD containing "Minneapolis" and a remix of the same plus "Ryde Dyvine" was briefly made available via 1 800 NEWFUNK. A poster of the CD cover art is still available from NPGMC, featuring artwork by Debbie McGuan, who also did the artwork for the Exodus and New Powersoul projects among other things.

The song was 'performed' by 'The Crayons' (an earlier incarnation of 'Minneapolis'
fronted by Sonny T) on 'The Ryde Dyvine' TV Special that Prince did to promote
the prince album and various associated artists in December 1992. The show
featured performances by Carmen Electra, George Clinton, Rosie Gaines and
Mavis Staples, as well as a short set by Prince & the New Power Generation.

Ryde dyvine, ryde dyvine
Explore your mind, explore your mind
Ryde dyvine, ryde dyvine
Explore your mind, explore your mind

Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Then get on up and let it move your mind
What U get is what U think U see
If U're ready come explore your mind and be
Let's do it

Feel the music pumpin' bass in your face
This must be the party, yeah this must be the place
Ain't nobody got no business up on the wall
Unless U're ground and tryin' 2 find a reason 4 it all
Let's do it

Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Then get on up and let it move your mind
Let's do it!
What U get is what U think U see
If U're ready come explore your mind

Everywhere I go my people's 40 colors strong
Keep my body moving, yeah that's when we get along
When the music stop and all my people look around
What they see is a box of crayons - black, white, red and brown, Hey!

Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Are U ready?
Get on up and let it move your mind
Let's do it!
Are U ready?
Explore your mind and be
Let's do it!
Let's do it!

Everybody's talkin' 'bout this brand new funky sound
Good old gospel funk'n'roll has always been around
What difference does it make if it don't make the fuckin' charts?
All that matters is the way U feel it in your heart
Let's do it!

Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Are U ready?
Get on up and let it move your mind
Let's do it!
What U get is what U think U see
If U're ready come explore your mind and be
Let's do it!
Hey hey, let's do it!

Rainbow couples in the corner kiss without a care
U can look 4ever as long as U don't stare
Fathers speak of separation, what the mothers say?
Fuck that noise, come on y'all, let's go dance the night away
Let's do it!
Let's do it!

Are U ready?
Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Let's do it
Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?

Are U ready 4 the ryde dyvine?
Then get on up and let it move your mind
What U get is what U think U see
If U're ready come explore your mind and be
Let's do it!
Explore your mind and be
Let's do it!

I remember that show -- it was very cool. The Crayons opened the show with that song, and I looked everywhere for it! They should've added it to the 1-800-NEWFUNK CD. It'd be cool if NPGMC would sell a DVD of the show sometime, if they have the rights.

yup - for those not in the know, all the little avatar drawings at NPGMC are her work.

she's also prince's stylist and clothing designer, isn't she?

So this was officially released at one point? I can't figure out why my post was deleted on NPGMC. I thought maybe because it was an outtake or something.
Anyway...thanks for the info!

or it could be because it sank to another page, and you didn't bother looking for it, therefore assuming it was deleted...lol They have a search feature, you know...lol

It was an official release, although good bootlegs are floating around, so be careful if you want to get one.

Yes, it was officially released (though only for a short period of time).
It came out around the same time as the first NPG album: Goldnigga.
There were 3 CD Singles released at that time, and they're all fairly
hard to get hold of now. They were...

Minneapolis - MPLS
1. MPLS (4:28)
2. MPLS (12 Inch Mix) (7:00)
3. The Ryde Dyvine (4:17)

New Power Generation - 2gether
1. Album Mix (5:34)
2. 12 Inch Mix (6:52)
3. Interview (4:21)
4. Enlightenment (5:19)
5. Jeep Mix (5:34)
6. Instrumental (5:39)

Mayte - If Eye Love U 2night
1. If Eye Love U 2night (4:20)
2. However Much U Want (Original Version)(3:33)
3. If Eye Love U 2night (Spanish Version) (4:20)
