"the max" I love it

This track is killer. Love the Tony M lines too.

It is an odd song as infact alot of piono is used upfront. some nice scratching too.

Mayte makes an early solo appearance.....

Remember the video? Yeah, pretty boring really.....

"yo baby, tell me where the parties at?".....

You go to the max?

He performed this on the Arsenio Hall show back in the day... with Mayte (very sexy) and the dancers and his entourage.. it was really slamming.

The first time I heard this song, and indeed the entire album " prince ", I was in love. The way he beats on that damned piano, and they way the rythim section is uncomfortably tense yet catchy--it was terrific.

Nowadays, I don't listen to it much as I can't get over Tony M's interludes and Prince's voice is just a wee bit tooo high for me. But from time to time, I look past those things and drown in it's funk.

Gawd I love that album. It would've been nice if it was a perfect album, but with so many great tracks ( 7, The Max, God Created Women, 3 Chains, The Morning Papers, Damn U) it damned well good enough for me.

My younger brother, who is also a fan, lives over seas. I remember when this album came out, and we were discussing it over the phone. I LOVED The Max. He HATED it. fight I was shocked!

About 2 months later, we were talking again, and he said, "Ok, I was wrong. The Max kicks a**. I dunno what I was thinking when I said I hated it. I must have been trippin'." err

I have found that the song I liked the least upon the first listen ends up being on of my favorite tracks.

I was there at the Arsenio Hall show when they performed tracks from this album, and it was wild!

The Max is still one of my favs off of prince. I always believed that it would have been a hit had it been released in the spring/summer of 93. I could see it playing in all of the clubs cause you can't sit still on that one. Ah, the memories smile .
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I listened to it for the first time in a while last week and I've got to say it is one of his strongest albums. I like "the max" too and it's one of the few tracks Tony M adds something positive too. I don't think this song would've been a hit though because it is a more hip-hop inspired track than a pop one and it wouldn't have flown with that crowd.

Great to c positive vibes to this track. I thought I was the only one who loved this track.

When the drums kick in (after that great intro and the piano and the scratch) it is all over. U got to get up and start dancing like MC Hammer.

The song seems to be spiritual too, but I don't really c that....."lets go"!

It's just odd that the piAno is the donimant one on this track....._

A song with Tony all over the chorus= no like.

That really sucks too, cause just like My Name is Prince, I'd love this song if he wasn't in it.

K, someone's got to bring the haterade, so I guess it's me. Actually, I don't really hate it per se, but to me it always sounded like some Jam-Lewis reject from "Rhythm Nation." I dunno, all the "let's gos!" and the awful "I go to the Max" just sound like something even Janet would've passed on. That said, I like the piano riffs.

I have been listening to this CD for the past week. It is officially a top 6 album. It has aged very well. The Sacrifice of Victor is even great. This CD has an edge not found on many albums since. To me, Purple Rain, Lovesexy, Gold, 1999, 0+>, and Parade are the pinnacle albums of his career and define his greatness.
