I don't consider it under-rated or a little gem.It's overblown and overproduced.

Now,songs like Walk Dont Walk,One Kiss At A Time and Pearls B4 The Swine I would consider under-rated little gems.

Sheryl Crow's original is cool.
Prince's remake is awful.

My sensiments 100%. He should have been ashamed of it
himself.

During this time he kept talking about how you should
not cover his songs since they were perfect to begin
with etc etc.

Then he turns around and works with Sheryl Crow, which
is cool enough. But in the process he covers one of
her very cool tunes and completely butchers is.

He said that covering songs was like someone come in
"taking your kid and putting him in different clothes
and giving them a different haircut".

Suffice to say that with his cover of Winding Road, he
not only gave the kid a haircut, he gave it a full
bodywax and some Michael Jackson plastic surgery in
the process.

Oh, and he broke both it's legs

Isten Imagines the following telephone conversation:

Prince {hey sheryl whatcha think of my cool new version of your jam?}

Sheryl {crap}

World {heaves a sigh}
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I felt the song was crap to begin with. Prince did little (if anything) to improve it.

At the time, there was a story circulating to the effect that Prince was not satisfied with the track and kept adding stuff to it, until he got tired and just gave up and released it.

Don't ask for a source. It's just what I remember reading from sources at the time, either on AMP or the Org.
