Anyone dig Mr Happy?

It's one of my fav prince cut's. I love thr crisp sound and the catchy commercial chorus. The lyrics r cool too.

The rap is well implemented.

".....i will take care of u, Mr happy, everyday and night"..

Kirky's beats were the problem. They were so mechanical, and stale and confining coming from a Prince track. P has never shown much taste with drum programming after the glorious Linn years. And I was never a fan of his Dr. Dre/Bernie Worrell imitation either (you know, that high-pitched squealy sound that's like shorthand for "funk")...somehow, is just sounded so wannabe when Prince tried it.

The rap is well implemented? The rap is what kills it for me.

NPG rocks the city
Rugged and raw, lift up your bra
Show me your titties"

barf

Who is this Scrappy Doo guy anyway? Why was he even employed? Was he someone's third cousin? What?

I like it. It's just a fun and funky track, it's not supposed to be Purple Rain or anything like that, it's just fun.

It seems as if people have certain expectaions for Prince. Some expect him NOT to do any hip hop influenced anything.

Question: Is it people who don't like hip hop from Prince that are the type not to like Mr. Happy?

yeah proberly. But I underatand that even if u do like hiphop, u may not like this track. I like the fluffier but still uptempo side of Prince in general, and I single this track out because of it!

I barely play anything off "emancipation", except "mr happy" and a few others.

U can make a sure bet that Prince fans who do not like any hip hop will surely hate "da,da,da", which is a track I like alot!

I loved "Mr. Happy'' AND "Da Da Da.''
When they come on, I definitely do NOT skip these tracks. I look forward to them. They don't take the place of other classics or anything. Just cool songs that fit the CD to me.
Maybe it is a hip-hop gap that keeps some from liking these tracks.

I was liking Mr. Happy a lot til the rap kicked in...then I rolled my eyes and skipped to the next track.

It's a cool, catchy little song. Like many other fans, I think Emancipation is a masterpiece 2 disc set, bogged down by a third disc (did Prince really think the album was bettered by the inclusion of "Da Da Da" or "We Gets Up"?). "Mr Happy" probably wouldn't have made the two disc set I would've picked, but it would've made a pleasing b-side.
