I threw New Power Soul cd out my window when i was driving last night!!!

Let me set the stage for you guys, it was 1998 was loving the gold experience, liking C&D and Emancipation, and had mixed reviews about Crystal ball. So I was hungry for some new Prince music, then he released NPS in July, after I listened to it start to finish (thats the only way i can judge an album) I was like "OH MY GOD..WTF is this???? I never listen to it again, that is until last night...I respect all my orgers here opinion, some like it, some hate it.

My boy Prince was seriously confused with this album, I listen to the 1st 2 songs and it was like 1998 all over again, I couldn't stand it anymore, I put the window down and out it went!!!

the songs, Larry, him trying to be hip hop, ugggghhhhh

It ranks in my bottom 3 Prince CDs (with Rave and KarmaSutra), but, lordy folks, even then it's not worthy of all this intense hate. Put on Until U're In My Arms now and tell me it's really THAT much worse than "Most Beautiful Girl"....there's a few nice tracks on it. Worst album ever, by any artist? Please.

omfg That's so wrong, but funny just the same! giggle

For my part, all I can say that I definitely don't listen to it regularly...maybe I should give it another shot. I'll wait until my next little road trip on the freeway, if it sux I can try thecableguy's solution! razz

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

As I wrote in the "Case of NPS" thread, it's not his best, but some tracks are excellent (NPS, Until U're..., When U Love..., Come On, The One, Wasted Kisses). There are a lot of other pop musicians out there who would give their (Newpower) soul just to write and record one song as good as these, and that's Prince's strength: even on his worst albums, he has some tracks he kicks other peoples' ass with.

And, btw, do you really think that the highly praised Usher has ever released any track in his life that was better than the stuff on NPS? eek Come on, this quickly produced overrated plastic crap ("Yeah, yeah!") is an offense to my ears!

Throwing a CD out of a window doesn't seem the right way to treat the environment btw, I think polycarbonate is not biodegradable! But, besides that, it's up to you of course what you make with your CDs.

So, Prince makes better records than Usher or other chart pap - That doesn't make NPS or Rave, or Musicology a masterpiece - it's still dull, uninspired and WELL below what Prince is capable of.

I don't consider Prince to be in the same league as Usher, that's kids music, chart stuff - I doubt I could even tell you what was in the Top 40 from week to the next - it's not worth considering these days, it's dreadful music.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
