Prince Guitar Solo

I was just listening to One Nite Alone and I have to say that the guitar solo at the end of When You Were Mine is the best Prince solo that I have heard. I would like to here what everyone else's favorite solo is.

Great choice; recording-wise I've always loved the solos from "When Doves Cry" (quite low down in the mix & not too brash) and "Automatic". The live "Purple Rain" solo from Syracuse 1985 (especially the initial blues-type solo with the Hohner guitar) aswell as "If I Had A Harem" from Lovesexy Live Dortmund 1988 have always besotted me.

It sounds to me that Prince hits a bad note in this solo just before the 3 minute mark, where he hits a flat note which he corrects when he repeats the phrase (D changes to D#, I think).

My favourite solo is on 'Just My Imagination', Small Club version.

I just heard this the other day for the very first time. Incredible! Definitely the best.

I also like the one on the 12" version of "America."

And then the one on "777-9311."

Yeah, i love that version. Nicely understated.

Joy In Repetition....i've no idea how he hits the high note at the climax of the solo (he's playing F at the 13th fret then it suddenly jumps an octave as a kind of harmonic squeal)

The Cross on Lovesexy Live-this time for the low open E string he hits at the start of the solo. Sounds amazing.

Computer Blue on 1st Av '83...i almost cum when i hear that.

I totally agree. It is jaw-dropping. Another that comes to mind is "Purple Rain" from Viva Las Vegas. I keep coming back to these over the years, and they amaze me every time.

Can someone tell me where to find it. I saw the regular performance, but I keep hearing about the George Harrison tribute. I really would like to see it.

RRHOF'04: http://www.finishlinefash...mance2.htm

Prince has a lot of great solos in many songs (mainly live performances), but I've been a fan for 22 years now and ain't never "seen" anything like this before. Just something about the whole evening, someone else's song, with other stars present, and a long guitar solo where Prince shows off a variety of skills -- and the timing was just right... i KNOW many jaws hit the floor that night! anybody who ever had a question why Prince was inducted into the ROCK-N-ROLL Hall of Fame won't question anymore after seeing this. i still love watching it over and over -- and enjoy watching other people watch it --> eek

lol

I second that Bambi joint...I got to see him live do some fancy guitar work on this at an aftershow in Nashville this past year. He was literally right in my face and I was in heaven.

Just my Imagination, from Small Club. I got this track as an mp3 back in the Napster days, and just burned it to a cd I took with me on my commute. When it came on, I was in a packed subway car, and the energy of this solo hit me so hard I suddenly felt both high and naked in front of 50 strangers.`

If I had an Harem -- I just love the guitar on this song. I'm not sure if it's the best solo, but it's just one of those songs that makes me want to play some tasteful air guitar.
