SOTT DVD question

I have received the DVD from amazon.ca on friday and i have to say that the image quality is amazing compared to the vhs reelase.
However, there's something wierd about the image during U Got The Look, it's definitely not as clear as the rest of the DVD and i really have no explanation why.
Anybody else having the same problem?

It's not actually a 'problem', it's just the way that it was originally shot.
U Got The Look is a promo video for the song, and hadn't originally been intended
to be included on a 'tour film'. It was made to look that way, with lots of
lens flare and bleaching out, coupled with a grainy overlayed look. It's
distinct 'look' is probably the reason that Prince included it as a 'dream
sequence' on the Sign O' The Times movie rather than just cutting it into the
running order of songs.

The poor quality is down to the recording.

"U got the look" was filmed on video tape, as a TV promo in 4:3, long before P decided to make a movie.

Once the movie got the nod, 70mm widescreen cameras were brought it. As "U got the look" didn't feature in the SOTT tour set, but had been the big hit, P decided to slot the video rather feebly into the finished film. Its rumoured he wanted to re-record it, but the film was already late in production, and Sheena Easton was unavailable for a rush job.

Hence the poor "dream" add on!

The difference is just as bad or noticable on the VHS.

Its much poorer on any format. I haven't seen the new DVD yet, but I'm sure DVD will highlight the difference even more.

It looked worst in the cimema. Then you could really tell!

The difference in that clip from the rest of the film was obvious at the theaters as well as on the VHS. Interlaced video back then was pretty cruddy, so the conversion would not make it better, just more "film like".
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
