LONG TERM FANS????? This morning I was browsing through all my Uptown and Controversy Magazines during some tidying up and I was reading some of the letters in Letters pages of both sets of magazines and it got me thinking - I wonder how many of those fans who wrote those letters all those years ago are still fans of Prince 2 this day??? Also how many fans are still fans of him who submitted contacts in the Pen Pals pages????
It would b interesting 2 find out if any of these people are users on this site or other sites!!! [Edited 1/15/05 0:53am]

I had some good correspondence with Eileen during '88-89. It was a fun time, and a great "fanzine" for us at the time. If I remember right, it's how I got my first copy of The Black Album (through the pen pal section).

The Controversy days!!! That was a fun period of my life because that's when I realized I wasn't alone in this Prince obsession. This was a world before the internet and knowing his every move via the Org. Some of us used to have to put pen to paper or have HUGE phone bills to keep in touch with each other or discuss the lastest Prince news. I big core of my friends I got from the first Controversy convention and we're still friends all these years later.

Eileen and I wrote one another a few times back in the late 80s (I still have her letters, written on the 'Controversy' magazine letterhead) and I used to look through magazines like Right On! and such for other Prince fans to write to, of which I found many! I had quite an elaborate penpal network going on for awhile there.
The Prince fan community back in those days was more work to navigate and network, but in some ways it was more exciting to have to go through all the effort and to wait on snail mail, etc. One penpal royally screwed me over though when I mailed her a copy of the Black Album on the condition she NOT share it with anybody else and she promised she wouldn't but guess what happened? IF I EVER FIND YOU KINA I'MMA GONNA GET YOU!!

I had a letter printed in Controversy. Some people were speculating that the artist Christopher Max was a Prince pseudonym and I had to burst their bubble. I sold my fanzine collection on ebay last year so I couldn't tell you what issue it was in.

Didn't some people get to go to Paisley through a fanzine? And Prince had a dump full of Prince merchandise and let the fans scramble 4 the stuff in the dumbsters? And he actually taped it?

Yes some people did win a tour of Paisley. I don't think Prince filled the dumpsters with anything other than trash I was there and it was pretty much trash that I seen people running by with. I will never forget watching some guy throw his girlfriend in the dumpster and holding her by her ankles and yelling "dig!!!!!" But the Japanese girl running by with a kleenex crying because she may have had a Prince booger was the highlight for me Such sweet memories.

Oh how I WISH I were kidding. I even called my traveling buddy from that trip this morning and I told her "remember the dumpster?" and she quickly said "remember the girl with the kleenex?" So, sad but OH so true That first group of people at that convention were scary to be honest, had he made an appearance it would have gotten UGLY fast.

Controversy fanzine is how I hooked up with EverlastingNow, gosh that had to have been 11, 12 years ago? We were penpals! This was before the Internet, which made the world Prince fan community way smaller. The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.
