I love Prince most for his utter funkyness and overall musicianship. I also dig his 'fuck' you attitude and his skills as a performer/entertainer.

You're right AB. We should respond intelligently to this thread.

I really like his throbbing "bass" beats and long hard rock "chords". No one can do it like he can.....

....but seriously. I love his creativity. Although I used to always look forward to little things in his music that would be genius to me. Some of his synth sounds leave me in awe. I guess I'd have to say that I love the nuances in his playing and singing. A perfect example is the Tavis Reflection performance. There's this note that ends some of the phrases. It sounds like a wrong note (and maybe it was, Wake Up Wendy) but it just fit. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Can I get an Amen?

I do agree that he is a genius.

But I've been listening to Mozart lately for reasons I'm not too sure of. And I'm not hating on Prince or anything, but that term is used very loosely. Friggen Mozart is incredible. His Reqium in D Minor has been in heavy rotation in my stereo for days now--it's amazing.

I listen to Mozart. Did he do Fugue in something. It's a song where the piano player sounds like he sat on all the keys on the organ. Crazy? I'm more into Tchaikovsky. I do agree that the classic composers are genius though. I'm obviously not hard core classical. I just know what I like when I hear it. I feel cheesy because I have MOZART AND TCHAIKOVSKY greatest hits. I forgot the series name.

Oh my God, Requiem in D minor is sad sad ! Wasn't he dying when he wrote this? I think it's incomplete or something because of his death?

Mozart was writing The Requiem Mass over his father passing away. His dad was an absolute tyrant and Mozart was working feverishly on finishing it. He died after eating a bad piece of pork though, and it never got finished. His top student actually finished the rest of it, which explains why the last 15 mins of it or so really aren't anything too special compared to the ingenius first half.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

This is not fully correct. The Requiem was possibly a work he was paid for, but it's not sure who gave him the order to do it (it's supposed that it was some "hobby composer" who wanted to pose with it as his own work). It is still unclear to date what was the exact reason for Mozart's death, some say he had got some infection, a minority has the theory he was poisoned (not by Salieri, but maybe by some husband of a woman he had an affair with - not to be taken too seriously imo). His father Leopold Mozart died some years before Mozart composed the Requiem and it is supposed that the Komtur in "Don Giovanni" embodies Mozarts dead father (which is just guessed and can't be proven by anything - btw, one of the most brilliant operas in music history). His student Süßmayr who finished the Reqiuem is supposed to be Constanze Mozarts Lover btw.

U like to Mozart too much.

OK, what I want to know is, which pieces within Reqium are not MOzart's?
I currently have a "finished" version where a modern composer finishes the work for Mozart--I guess some composers have the balls to do that.

It's kind of like Prince starting SOTT but stopping just after Strange Relationship and handing the task over to one of his peers to finish.

No. He was an amazing genius. Mozart fully composed the music in his head (without taking down any ideas) and wrote down the complete score at the end (full orchestra!). In a letter, he complained that writing stuff down slowed down his working process because he composed faster than he wrote!

OK, what I want to know is, which pieces within Reqium are not MOzart's?

He for sure wrote everything up to "Confutatis". I think he also fully composed the "Lacrymosa", but I'm not totally sure. I think he died somewhere over the "Domine Jesu" (may also be it was the end of "Lacrymosa"). I'm pretty sure that everything from "Sanctus" to the end was done by Süßmayr, but we don't know if Mozart gave him certain orders or ideas before he died, of course. One reason why Constanze Mozart enforced Süßmayr to finish the Requiem was because she needed the money.

I currently have a "finished" version where a modern composer finishes the work for Mozart--I guess some composers have the balls to do that.

Interesting! Who did it? Was the finish in modern or in Mozart style? Conductor Christoph Eschenbach (now in Philadelphia) performed the Requiem some months ago here in Hamburg stopping exactly where Mozart died and finished the concert with a modern piece (I don't remember the composer, unfortunately - I had no time to go to that concert).

It's kind of like Prince starting SOTT but stopping just after Strange Relationship and handing the task over to one of his peers to finish.

Maybe the dude should have done so with the Graffiti Bridge movie, but stopping and handing over it somewhere after minute 1 or 2. biggrin

In reply to the forum topic--

I love the falsetto ballads

His inner comedian

His complete inabilty to adhere to society's expectations(this works both as a positive and a negative )

His years of experience-- yeh I'm into older guys, but Prince gets this comment for different reasons*

The fact that he's fuckin crazy, and he uses it to write songs for people just as crazy as he is...

His vanity. P the Proud Peacock with the feathers of gold and purple like a PB &J sandwich...

A nigglet is the word American Slaveowners used to refer to slave children--
Piglet + Nigger = Niglet.
