Ahem... getting back on topic....

I thought the Oprah interview was so sad. It was so obvious at the time that things were so very wrong. Mayte looked like a little girl. It looked like it was all she could do to keep from crying. She looked like a child herself, so young. Interesting that her mother was there, also looking very solemn.

And Prince was trying to keep it all together, focussing on the children that he hoped to have in the future. Having him show the baby's playroom was a bit much on the tear-jerking tip. (It's funny that it was so large that it looked like a soundstage--- quite fitting, I guess). neutral

Also, when Mayte pointed out that she was just 16 when she met him, it was jarring, especially in juxtaposition to Prince's saying that he knew they'd be together forever when they met. The expression on her face was so odd. Like she was confused, which is understandable given that she hadn't really lived at all before she entered his sheltered world (and a weird one at that, let's face it.) You get the impression that he was waiting for 2 years to go by before he stepped to her hard. (Personally, I don't think he really waited. IMHO).

In retrospect, it's not surprising that the relationship didn't last. Oprah is a genius interviewer for capturing all of this, which seem much more deep when you look back on it.

hey, perhaps my choice of words were bad but i just think op's definitly overly told her audience about slavery over the years. So when beloved came out i rekon they wernt in the mood to sit thru an overly long epic about the subject, after all it aint been the first movie depicting it. Still dont agree, fine, do i care Haaael no.
