Prince represented on Grammy nominees CD

Cinnamon Girl is on the new CD of Grammy nominees for this year!

Check the story out here:

pretty cool stuff, though it's interesting that this song was chosen over Musicology and Call My Name, wonder if Prince or Sony had anything to do with that?

This is great news...because Prince hasn't been on a grammy's compilation disc.
Which I know alot of ppl who aren't the average record buying public...that go out to buy the grammy cd's because it has alot of the popular songs on it.

So this would be good promotion for 'Musicology' as well as Prince getting some listen to by those who wouldn't normally buy his cds or for those who lost touch of Prince's Music since 1986!

ROCK ON!!!

nod Excellent point, this could be seen as a smooth marketing move, and why not!

Also, I happen to be rather fond of the song Cinnamon Girl! razz to the haters!

Is there a definite list of Grammy performers floating out there?
Is there a chance he'll perform still or has he already stated that won't?
Anybody hear anything?

Wow! Prince has really changed. First the almost over-exposure to Prince, through TV performances, and this hugely successfuly Musicology tour, not to mention a double platinum album (we might as well consider it that). And now Cinnamon Girl is on a compilation CD. All marks of a mellow Prince, more willing and open than ever before. Remember when he absolutely hated the idea of people compiling songs of his on hits collections? This, probably more than anything else, is the mark of his success this last year. Right on.

I'm personally suprised about Cinn. Girl not because of the actual song but by the fact there was such a stink raised around the video. I thought it would be too hot to put the song on the CD and risk having people associate the video with the Grammy folks.

i'm personally thinking putting cinnamon girl on was princes and/or sony's doing. mainly because, he could have put musicology on, a song that charted on radio, call my name, which he is up for two grammies for (i think?) and charted for 18 weeks on the hot 100, but instead they put the controversial song from the album, the current single - even if noone is playing it, and the one that's gotten no airplay. i can't help but think it's not a coincidence.

cool either way, out of the 3 singles its the one people will have heard the least, how much do these cds usually sell? for some reason i think they go about platinum at most? suppose it's another million people!

You couldn't have said it any better. With all these award show appearances that he's making you'd think he'd at least show up for the Grammy's and if he performs, man, L.A. better be ready. This is BIG to see a Prince song on ANY compilation disc so I'm really impressed by this.

GO PRINCE!!!!!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Who knows? Maybe he allowed CG to be placed on the cd so that it would gain some of the exposure it was denied when it was originally released. This is good business: find a way to get your material out to the public. Just another way that he is able to navigate around the obstacles that the music business tries to throw at him.

He's been able to get around retail sales monopolies, charts, and now narrow-minded radio stations. Smart! Very smart!

I believe the Grammy compilation is based on categories they decided to focus; in this case, Best Rock Vocal Performance, that's why Cinammon Girl was chosen.

CG is an excellent choice.

Publicity and record sales aside, this is one of the only songs that truly tells americans that there is another side of the story.

All BS aside lets hope Prince's message is heard by the masses.

This is good news. They couldn't have picked a better choice than "Cinnamon Girl". Since 1985, I've had to listen to each Prince album a few times to get into it and "Musicology" was no exception. "Cinnamon Girl" was the first track to catch my ear. People like to down it and say it sounds like the 1980s. People love to use the term "dated" a lot around here but it goes to show that good music is timeless.

As far as "Call My Name" goes, it is one of my least favorite tracks because it sounds like everything else on the radio today. If the style of music today ever changes, people are going to be calling "Call My Name" "dated" also.
