Unlike The Gold Experience and Emancipation, Sign O The Times is in ABSOLUTELY NO RISK of ever being out of print.
Good thing too, 'cuz I'm already on my third copy! theVille: ENJOY!!! You will love this album above all others. It is the benchmark!

Actually, it's not out of print, but I think what Prince did was stop producing the one with profanity, and release a clean one.
And the Gold Experience, which used to be out of print, is back in print again, I think. The reason why I say this is because it used to be OUT OF STOCK at amazon.com, but then one day I checked, and it was just a standard piece of merchandise up for sale. So what did you think of the album?????
I can't actually recall listening to any of the albums the very first time. But eversince 1988, I always called in sick at school and later on at work on the day a new Prince album was released. Just go to the recordstore first thing in the morning, pick up the album, drive home, lock the doors, bolt the windows, unplug the phone and push play..... I've actually been on sick leave since february 15, but alas, no new album has come through the mail yet.

Am I the only one who does not dig SOTT very much?

WOW! you lucky person!
listening to SOTT for the first time.. i was 13 years old. it transfixed me. i didn't understand a lot of going on, but i knew i had found something that i wanted to listen to a lot, and figure out. 15 years later, i'm still here... and after listening to a LOT of prince music a LOT of times- i consider SOTT the best album he's made. ~sigh

It's not that I don't dig it so much, but I can't say I think it's his best album. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I remember that day! 15 years ago. I bunked school and waited at the local wrecka stow in March 1987. In England the SOTT album came out the same day as the long awaited Bryan Adams follow up to Reckless (In to the fire). My best mate was a Bryan Adams fan so we waited outside the record shop until it opened.
We went to my mums house (she was out) and turned the stereo up, playing a track from each album. Because SOTT was a double, Bryan ran out of time and my mate had to listen to SOTT side 3 and 4. He heard the Cross, and said "I think your album is going to be a classic". Bryan came up with some good songs, but even a die hard Bryan fan said SOTT was a classic. He hated Prince before, but came with me to the SOTT concert in Belgium a few months later. I saw him for a beer last Thur night and he said "remember when we were at school and Prince ripped all the current music apart?" I think you had to be there.....

So, theVille - 3 days later: are you still listening to it? What do you think? Any instant faves? Any "urgh - don't like that" tracks?
It's one of my favourite albums - I'd be interested to hear your views....
