Anyone noticed the chorus of "Jam Of The Year" at the beginning of "Movie Star"?

Faintly in the background you can hear "Jam Of The Year".

Wasn't "Movie Star" an 80s bootleg? Is the 80's bootleg different from the one that appeared on "Crystal Ball"?

If not, "Jam Of The Year" must be an eighties track!

Someone explain...

I took that as you are inside the vault with Movie Star, and Jam of the Year is what you can hear him working on outside
Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there
When silhouettes fall

Movie star was "badly edited" on crusty balls.. as was "crystal Ball" crucial being re recorded and over produced... the "tell me how u wanna b done" shite.. makes this 3 cd set a complete trainwreck, alltho in ever wreck there's some highlights.. "An honest man, Make yo mama happy, days o wild,Last heart,

Crystal Ball (the song) was the only good thing out of the 3cd set.

There are still some goods songs (maybe 5) on it. .but thats it for me.. that one song.

See, I was actually disappointed with An Honest Man from the CB set. I expected an actual full track. But, yes, "complete trainwreck" is a good description of Crystal Ball. There isn't one song on the set that I was giddy to actually finally have. The three that I would have been giddy for--full versions of Crystal Ball, Movie Star and Good Love--he ruined by fucking with them.

Love that! lol

Yeah the editing was awful!

For me, the biggest turd is An Honest Man, I was all moist ready for a perfect copy of the instrumental from the opening of UTCM, and it comes on, and it's this tripe. pissed

funny... i thought the album was very well sequenced, and I liked listening to the cd's (all the way through) more than quite a few of his albums (all the way through). I think the song sequence was surprising and sly. Prince's coolness increased a thousandfold when I first heard CLoreen Baconskin.

Of course I would rather have had no edits whatsoever to the classic boot songs like moviestar and crystal ball, but the additional production on sexual suicide is arguably better than the bootleg version...

and the sound quality is great.

Why does the CB "good love" have the strange outside footsteps at the end if the track. U know what I mean?

Never noticed that, but I'm gonna have to listen again.

I loved Crystal Ball on first listen. It was fun and cool. It was everything Emancipation was not. But where Emancipation grew on me, Crystal Ball revealed it's weak spots to me.

Still, there's got to be a full good disc on it.

Crystal Ball
Dream Factory
2Morrow
Movie Star
Interactive (if you remove the "are you ready? beep beep beep...")
Crucial
Honest Man
Sexual Suicide
Strays
She Gave Her Angels
Good Love
Goodbye

Plus you get The Truth.

Ironically enough, this post has the most badly edited grammar and punctuation I've seen on the org for some time. lol

Interesting opinions of Crystal Ball here. I absolutely loved that set!

It had "Interactive" and "Ripopgodazippa", which were both on various early versions of The Gold Experience, but were removed for its official release (either one would have substantially improved that disappointing project, IMO). There were tons of other gems as well -- hell, I even like "Cloreen Baconskin".

Sure, there were a few clunkers in the mix, but far fewer than either The Gold Experience or Emancipation contained. Were it not for prince, Come and Crystal Ball, the 90's would have been a total loss for Prince.

I loved Exodus as well, but I suppose that's technically an NPG recording.

so what else did prince change in movie star? having not heard the boot i'm thankfully not full of bias as to how it "should" be. personally i think the jam of the year intro is cool, it's like a club thing. and he also puts the screeching car sound that peach has in it somewhere too. it's cool, it adds to the music, doesn't really ruin it for me. what did he do to it other than those two things, 'cos it's abit of an exaggeration to suggest that they made it into a "trainwreck"!
