Seeking advice on a compilation for current teens

Recently, while I was working on a volunteer project with some high school students, I was playing the 1988 small club boot on my CD player. A few of the students (who are musically inclined) asked who was playing those long jams, and were surprised to hear that it was the same guy who released "Musicology".

I'd like to put together a CD for a couple of them, with the following in mind: 15-17 year old males, who know and play music; inclined to rock, funk, ska, jazz, but not R+B; I don't think cussing is an issue, but they are not sophisticated or experienced with sex.

I'm thinking along the lines of "Sexy MF" and "Work that fat". Any other suggestions?

I always include Private Joy.

And lately I include jams like Beautiful Strange too.

Pretty Man is funny n funky.
Extended version of Anotherloverholenyohead.
Paisley Park's remix with that guitar solo.
Days Of Wild, any live version will do.
Joy In Repetition live of the ONA box set.
Come On.
Dear Mr Man.
Do It All Night.
Osaka.

Just to name a few....

Thanks; those are good suggestions (although I don't think that teenage boys are mature enough to get the actual "point" of Pussy Control).

What about Irresistable Bitch?

Maybe I could also ask those who respond to state their age? Thanks again.

Yeah, but by your profile, you're English and live in the city while these guys are suburban Americans.

This is true.... still its a funky track. thinking about it there are so many songs 2 pick from here are a few more that may do the trick....

The greatest romance
Endorphine manchine (although may be a bit heavy)
when doves cry (obviously)
Mr. Happy (the live versions are great and with real funky guitar bits 2)
Face down (again, Live is better like on that official bootleg tape that came out)
Get Wild

Greatest Romance? AAAARRRGGGGHHH! Enough to turn anyone away... Bland RnB at its worst...

I cant ever imagine that one gaining new young fans...

But that comes from a 32 yr old... So make your own conclusions I guess.....

It's sweet to think that boys at that age know nothing of sex, btw...

Nah, they know about sex - on the other hand, female empowerment, I dunno....

I would just give them one entire album. Something like Parade or Musicology. If they're musical tastes aren't mature enough to appreciate songs that aren't the latest trend then they're just not ready to get into Prince.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

Do you mean to sound snobbish? I don't think so.

These guys have more eclectic taste than many other kids I know. (Besides, as far as I'm concerned, there are things to skip on both Parade and Musicology.)

After all, we're making compilations all the time: romantic, guitar-heavy, funky, etc...

i think if were talking entire albums its more of a tough one. What would be the most "friendly" prince album to give a young teen?

80's stuff probably is too dated in these days of Hip Hop, RnB, Garage, techno and pop idols... As much as we may not think so, it probably is...

90's stuff could be ok, but what album as a whole?

For the guys I'm talking about, Symbol would be the closest (but even that could use editing)

If they have such eclectic tastes then you shouldn't have to spoon feed them an especially-designed compilation, right?

I say try the prince album. There really are good songs on that CD. Maybe try New Power Soul too. And Gangster Glam if you can find it.
