by the way,how do you know what i will keep tabs on?
ya know how many copies of musicolgy i bought?=none
emancipation=still havn't heard the majority of it
new power soul=nope,never got it
diamonds and pearls=listened once on cassette, heard tony m,gave tape away next day.
chaos and disorder=never bought it

so,that is how much i am "keeping tabs" on his current output.

It's also how much you've been missing out on, too.

[the typical "i am a fan from way back then, therefore i know better/more/i'm bigger than you" spiel]

if you've been in the fanbase for so long (and mostly without a problem, from what you've just said), why are you bitching about stuff now? if you dislike p's current band/music/whatever so much, take off your fan badge and never mind it all. complaints like yours make absolutely no sense.

i don't care if you've been a fan for 26 years or 6, truth of the matter is you should either get hip with his current direction and deal with said direction (you should know ol' boy flips the script and changes his style more often than he changes from suit to suit) or hang it up and end your fan status right here and now. same goes for anyone else who feels that prince either ain't or ain't been doin shit. it ain't that hard, nor is it that crucial.

New Power Generation sounds like an abc after- school special or something.just too tame and wimpy.
this is not a new revelation for me either.
i have had this argument since 1992!
it is not like i have not done my hoework before i started this thread either.
like i said,im not gonna compare his bands, that itself is worn out and lame,i have my personal favorite era and never expect him to ever return to those people or that sound,it's just that the whole NPG thing is really getting old now.
honestly, are you gonna be ultra-excited when you get the new prince album and it is credited to "prince and the NPG"?
wont you feel a little dissapointed, kinda like,"i know what this is gonna sound like already, horns, blackwell, bible talk etc...
been there,done that,thanx.
new D'angelo album please....

excellent points here. nod

it's almost as if Prince is "making up" for not giving the unheard of hungry musicians in prior bands (ie the Revolution) a chance to shine live and solo and stuff...so he's doing it now, or something...shrug
[Edited 1/3/05 13:27pm]

Thanks and I think a lot of is that Prince is just so impressed by these other musician's obvious talents, and is so keen to introduce them to his own fans and share his love and joy of their music, he doesn't see that after awhile it wears a bit. It's like me when I have a favorite movie or CD or whatever that I wear out over and over and over and try to get other people to watch or listen to...the movie or CD might very well be great or have legitimate merit, but other people arent necessarily going to share my appreciation for it to the same degree and, if every time they come over to visit ME and talk to ME and everytime they do I force that movie or music on them, they might get a bit tired of having to see/listen/hear about it excessively. (not the greatest analogy but ah well biggrin)

And no, that doesn't mean I dislike it completely when Prince showcases these other people or think he should NEVER do it - I just wish it occured to a bit lesser degree is all.

nope. i'm simply sayin shut up and stick with it, you've been around long enough to know better. you've been in the game long enough to know which way is up, therefore you shouldn't spend your time complaining about the obvious.

I have mixed opinions about them. I mean as far as the musicianship goes, the NPG are awesome. The musicians are the best and each are amazing in their own right. However I AM tired of the concept of the NPG and I do think it is time for a newer, more hip one.

we are not in the position to gauge if a statement is 1) a complaint... or 2) obvious..

why? because its objective...we can agree...we can disagree .....we can debate the validity of ones arguements or statements...but we never dismiss....

what's thought-provoking about a dead-horse topic like this one? seriously, people ask this question at least 4 times a month! if you want thought-provoking, try for a topic that either hasn't been done to death or has never been asked (and in the current state of things, that's sorta hard to come by).

this forum was created to share opinion and information.
if we all shut up evertytime you disagree with us,well,it's gonna get pretty quiet here at prince.org

this is one funny thread....

ya'll need to relax. prince is playing music HE likes. I think this is a great band and I feel the vibe of this band. Every band had its own vibe BECAUSE of where Prince's head is at. He may not be in the mood for a bunch of running around on stage....rock opera sorta stuff. The man is almost 50....

All this complaining AND you want a new D'Angelo album? D'Angelo has trouble competing with Prince now (let alone Prince in the past). D'Angelo has talent but this Ultra funky Prince vibe you seem to be longing for- A. Has never been accomplished by D'Angelo. He is very satisfied spewing out a slow/mid tempo soft funk jam. B. Is still being provided by Prince moreso than anyone else currently.

Yep and unfortunately ALL those aforementioned topics are continually going to be cyclically rehashed. It's just the nature of an ever changing fansite. I'd rather have this particular topic rehashed than those stupid other ones that basically have no redeeming qualities (though sometimes they can be good for a giggle...) and if people wanna debate these same topics again, go for it, as long as they abide by side rules and be respectful of one another.
