are you sick of the New Power Generation yet? i'm tired of the whole concept, sound, look etc...
was watching a bunch of old boots today on vhs and came to the conclusion that the whole NPG thing bores me to death! too many old people in the band, not rock-n-roll at all. too many damn horns and horn solo's and horn scales and horns this and horns that!jeez!. love horns in moderation but this is getting ridiculous,ok,prince,we know maceo can play, you don't have to give him a solo in every song! i'm tired of all the lame shout-outs during concerts-"go rhonda","maceo blow ya horn"etc...if i'm lyin,i'm flyin!...you know this is aggravating. i'm tired of prince trying to sell memberships to his music club in concert. really,i could go on,basically-i am ready for something completely new! get rid of everyone you ever had in your band and come out with a brand new band and a brand new concept.the NPG's days are numbered...it's old already, dude.

Been sick of it. I pretty much agree with everything you've listed WallyS. Only thing I really disagree with is getting rid of everyone currently in the band. I would like to see a new concept though and an end to the excessive "shout-outs", less horns etc.
As far as just names go, not going into the debate of which band is better, the NAME "The Revolution" is so much more kick ass than "The New Power Generation." I'm firmly planted in denial

Please bring back the synth, funky music. I don't care about the horns, I love the horns. But please make it FUNKY!!!!! Nothing has made me make that funky-something-smells-really-bad (in a good way) face in a long time. You know the face I'm talking about. When one of his songs is sooo funky that you just can't help it.

the current line up is very good at rehashing the same jazz licks that we all heard an abundance of on albums like"the vault"etc..but,when it comes to being nasty-this current line up is anything but!
way too sterile. i never thought i would ever say that.lol."prince is too sterile"...seems funny.

love horns in moderation but this is getting ridiculous,ok,prince,we know maceo can play, you don't have to give him a solo in every song!
While yourself and others may find this annoying, it is easy to understand why Prince constantly gives Maceo oppurtunity to solo. It is because Maceo is a musical hero of Prince's. similarly, Prince is one of mine and If i was lucky enough to have MY musical hero in my band i'd be cueing his ass in like a mutha f*cka. You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

But when does a wise performer draw the line at how much his own personal musical hero/s hog the spotlight at a concert/show that is supposed to be his show..a show whereat fans paid their hardearned money to see HIM perform? At some point I would think it might be a good idea to realize that your own fans might get a bit tired of watching you give the stage over so often to someone else, and maybe back off a bit on that. Prince could arrange to have plenty of other opportunities to play with his musical heroes at other times besides his own shows - privately, or maybe show up at THEIR concerts. I'm all for having Prince or whoever else get their own personal musical heros or influences up on stage with them but, after awhile (and a lot of repeated long, drawn out solos and whatnot), and especially if I'm not a huge, avid fan of that hero or influence, it DOES get old and a bit irritating. I go to a Prince concert to see Prince perform...not someone else. But, like Handclaps said - I'll still be around no matter what or who Prince has in his band(s), and it's Prince's show to do with what he wants and in the end what I think don't make much difference and I'm just running my mouth. the band paints the canvas of the moderator
don't blame the band, Blame Prince! the current musicians he's afilliated with are quite possibly the best Dare i say better then the Revolution? maybe i still have a soft spot for Dr. Fink But i digress Bands are flexable to what the creator wants to do If Prince really wanted to play Rock... he wouldn't have to chnage his band to do so... and BTW did it ever cross your midn that Prince Is Mature and likes a mature atmosphere

[Edited 1/3/05 13:04pm] excellent points here. it's almost as if Prince is "making up" for not giving the unheard of hungry musicians in prior bands (ie the Revolution) a chance to shine live and solo and stuff...so he's doing it now, or something...
