According to a BBC interview with Alan Leeds and Susan Rogers, he popped out the entire album in two weeks. He's a prolific guy, but maybe somehow this reflects the absence of real breakthrough thinking. IMHO. Come here, babe.. yeah...

Until U're In My Arms Again, When You Love Somebody and Wasted Kisses are so, so, SO underrated it's a crime. New Power Soul, Mad Sex and Shoo-Bed-Ooh have been used by yours truly to help convert more than a few "non-believers" into P fans. He uses that sped-up guitar sound on I like Funky Music that he hadn't used in years (gawd I wish he'd use that more often...) not to mention the return of his Camille voice. There may be a throw-away or two on NPS, but after 20 years of unbelievable music, don'tcha think he was due for one? Oh yeah, buy Batman. I love COME ON! Soooo FUNKY! Goodnight, sweet Prince.

That's deep. I concur with you on that "cruising" point. I don't have ONA, but I was hoping that it didn't fall into that category, since he's sings from his entire catalog .
Sorry - I meant the actual ONA clinky-clanky pretty wanky Piano album not the ONA Live cd...you cant go wrong with Prince live...thats one thing he is a genius at. [Edited 1/4/05 12:51pm]

It's one of the last Prince albums you should buy IMO. If you've got everthing else sure it's worth picking up but if you've got any gaps particularly pre 1989 in your collection make sure they're filled first. I never liked the Batman soundtrack. It has a couple of moments but overall its pretty mediocre.

[Edited 1/4/05 12:51pm] "Clicky-clanky pretty wanky"!!!! I believe this is the name of the hidden track on the "new" CD. Don't know how it got left off the track lists posted here! I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Its VERY different from a "standard" Prince album if I can say that. It took me awhile to get into it, but I REALLY LOVE IT NOW, its definitely worth having in your collection. It'll grow on ya for sure, just give it time...like the COME album did. Batman is the first album that was not totally inspired. After Lovesexy, Prince never had an album that I could repeatedly listen to from beginning to end. Before Batman, there were no "throwaways" in my opinion. Not sure what happened. It's like he really wanted commercial success at that point.
Having said all this, there are some good songs on this disc and it is worth getting. Love the title track-- never heard anything quite like it in the way it keeps shifting gears. Also love Vicky Waiting, Electric Chair (!!), The Future, and Scandalous. Can't remember any more right now without getting up to look for it.

while most movie soundtracks are pathetic the prince-batman cd was probably the best soundtrack from a film that i have seen.most are uninspiring and not worth the price tag on the cover.so go get it.u wont regret it.

Yes, buy the Batman soundtrack album. It's chock full of that Prince goodness. From the stompin' beat of The Future, to the guitar strut of Electric Chair. From the sweet balladeering of Arms Of Orion to the funky beat of Partyman. From the folksy blues of Vicki Waiting to the hyper-techno style of Trust. From the new-funky Lemon Crush to the classic ballad Scandalous. Then there's the title track, Batdance, an ecclectic funk-da-fied track that went to #1.
The B-sides are all good too. 200 Balloons could have easily fit in where Batdance was, and probably more upbeat, but it's cool like that. Sex is an Erotic City style dance jam and I Love U In Me is a cool mackadocious beatless jam. This album went #1 around the world and sold over 6 million copies. It's got really cool artwork, too - simple and dark. So yes, go cop that disc.
