Should I Buy The "Batman" soundtrack?

I notice that this album catches a lot of heat from most of you guys. I plan on buying a few CD's, so I ask you: Should I buy "Batman"?

hell m*%^#&F&#*&n' YES! It's a very cohesive album that is themed very well. It was the first Prince album I ever owned(on cassette). I had a Weird All tape and some joker(Steve Thornberry) had Batman. I had grown extremely tired of the Al tape and steve asked me if I wanted to trade. I agreed not knowing what was on this this tape. He snickerd at me like I had gotten took or something like that after we traded. I thought it was gonna be like a normal soundtrack or whatever. I was pleasantly suprised. I never got the Al tape back and didn't want it back.

Buy it without a doubt - to me it isnt like a soundtrack, those songs dont always bring back the movie to me...its a pretty good album on its own - Batdance is the only thing that lets it down for me...it just doesnt fit as an album track

Why wouldn't you buy it?

Unless you were a casual fan I suppose, but when I get into an artists I tend to want everything they've done.

Regardless of what many say, the Batman soundtrack is one of my favorite and one of Prince's best albums hands down and NO he didn't sell out when making this album.

Batman? Sure, it's a landmark Album. Landmark as in it marks the spot where Princes career headed downhill.

If that was his career going downhill then we stand no hope....Batman is miles better than anything he has done in recent years except maybe Musicology and that,at best, is only on level terms.

Sure Batman sounds like hes just cruising, not really giving it much thought....but comapre it to stuff like NEWS,ONA and TRC where he may as well record an album where he jsut say "look at me,look at me,im doing something different...please buy it cuz its different, crap but different

I love the Batman CD but if you dislike synthesizer Prince you probably will not like it that much. There are good songs on there and to be honest at first I wasn't all that impressed but after rediscovering it again it is one of the P albums I play the most. My favorites are "Electric Chair" and "Lemon Crush". Give it a try, after all it is Prince you can't go wrong!

The Prince Batman CD is awesome! Prince did capture the mood of the film with atmospheric music like The Future. The album has a stripped down 1999 sound. No jazz. No preaching. Just whiplash funk and blowtorch guitar. The Synthesizers and drum machine sound.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Allow me to add my YES vote as well.

As long as you're not a "music snob", you should like it.
It's no Sign 'O' The Times, but it's a great CD.

There's some good tunes in there...I really like "Lemon Crush" & "Vicky Waiting" and (of course) "Electric Chair".

That's deep. I concur with you on that "cruising" point. I don't have ONA, but I was hoping that it didn't fall into that category, since he's sings from his entire catalog.

As a number of people have mentioned Batman is so cheap, there's no reason not to buy it. I only like Scandalous, though. I remember being very disappointed when it came out. It seemed slap-dash to me. confused
Come here, babe.. yeah...

three words: New Power Soul!

I honestly feel sorry for people who don't enjoy NPS. Come On and The One are classic. Until U're In My Arms Again, When You Love Somebody and Wasted Kisses are so, so, SO underrated it's a crime. New Power Soul, Mad Sex and Shoo-Bed-Ooh have been used by yours truly to help convert more than a few "non-believers" into P fans. He uses that sped-up guitar sound on I like Funky Music that he hadn't used in years (gawd I wish he'd use that more often...) not to mention the return of his Camille voice. There may be a throw-away or two on NPS, but after 20 years of unbelievable music, don'tcha think he was due for one?

Oh yeah, buy Batman.
