I've seen a smattering of threads on this subject, but they don't stick around. Anyone got the official word? Is there a new SOTT DVD on 1/4/05 or not?

Well, Amazon.ca (Canada) sent me an email on 12/29 saying they had shipped mine, so I'm just waiting on the mail now to see what shows up. The listing on their site (and several other Canadian video sites) say that it's coming and it's being put out by Alliance, who is the legit rights holder for Canada...so here's hoping!

OK, the DHL guy just dropped this puppy at my door a few minutes ago & I'm watching it NOW & goddamn does it look good!! Finally, a widescreen release which I think completes all his theatrical releases that were released last year. So if you dig the quality on those you'll be a fool not to get this version. I mean this beats the Galactus version which sourced the laserdisc. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the cover, it looks like a bootleg!! But the contents is amazing sharp picture with details I've never seen before. Like some people mentioned when they saw the cable broadcasts, U Got the Look looks absolutely crappy.Very grainy & it looks like somebody turned on a fog machine. Other than that an absolute must have so peeps get this now!

Unless you see this at your local DVD store it seems Amazon Canada is the only people selling this. Weird thing is the release date is Jan.25th & I already got this?!

Just home on my dinner break and found my copy from Amazon.ca waiting for me. Popped it in and checked out a few parts - looks great! So nice to see this FINALLY in widescreen! Can't wait to sit down and watch the whole thing.

I would disagree about the cover looking "like a bootleg"...just looks like they didn't have the proper font and didn't want to pay to have new artwork comissioned. At least it uses the proper cover picture, as opposed to the 1999 / Purple Rain era picture on the Brazilian version, which some insisted was "official". If anything, this one looks Canadian

Anyway, folks, yes, it's official! Get it get it get it!

Yes, U.S. and Canada are both "Region 1", so any Canadian release will play just fine on U.S. equipment.

OK I went on to Amazon this morning and it said out of stock. Then I just checked it now and it says that the new release date is on 1/25/05. OMG I thought that the release date was tomorrow and I was going to pre-order it. Maybe if I check it again later it will change.
