So they gave him ideas for some songs ,that does not mean he could not do it alone or the ( written, produced and arranged by Prince) was a gimmick ,thats harsh .I think people give Wendy and Lisa and Andre before that too much credit ,i said it before they made no impact with there own music when they left Prince ,they are associated with Prince forever ,not because they wrote half the Time album, and Wendy would tell Prince if the music was shit and to take it out , yeah maybe once i doubt he would let her tell him how to do his music if so maybe his albums with The Revolution should have had written , produced and arranged by the very talented Wendy and Lisa nod prince eye

Is this what you mean about on the W&L site?

then in 1980 Lisa joined Prince on his Dirty Mind album and tour, and there she stayed for the next several years. Collaborating on Controversy and 1999....and also the spin off projects like The Time and Vanity 6.

Otherwise what are you referring to?

not at all..its just your narrow perspective on things is refusing you to see the point im trying to make..it has nothing to do with prince and everything to do with your rationalizing discussions and debates..

your issue is that you are over exagurating my statements.....your making it all up in your head.....why is that?

prince needs to fire his entire staff and let a third party business savy person (like herb alpert or quincy jones) select non yes men to manage his business..

secondly, dont listen to mani.....you are equals in your relationship but not in your careers...let her school you on the bible but dont let her dictate career choices..

thirdly, work with people who have the balls to tell you you are full of shit...ever notice how wendy and lisa were sent a demo of "in this bed i scream", contributed arrangments yet they never ended up on the final song? sure sure, the contributions could have sucked....however, something tells me that prince is really lacking from peer senergy....get him in a room with lisa, doctor fink, andre cymone and others who were there before "prince" blew up....have susan rogers engineer it and have them all put prince's ego in check....prince's album productions have been his own worst enemy of late....it kills what end up being beautiful and energized songs performed in concert....he needs to be surrounded by senergy to thrive....not so that he can steal or learn from these people...but so that he can be challenged and inspired.....

i thought it was telling that rhonda b sat her tired ass down the entire final show of the Musicology Tour (in san jose)...how is that gonna inspire you to record the next classic tune? what would it be called? "heffa on a couch"?

You do know that Fink isn't a real doctor don't you? If Prince's personal growth is truly what you're worried about and not the musical output, which I find hard to believe, Wendy, Lisa, and Andre Cymone aren't the answers. As for his albums not being classics and lacking vitality that's a matter of opinion. His only true undisputable classic is Purple Rain and it wasn't a collaborative effort. He had been progressing to that point and whether it was Wendy, Lisa, or me there with him it would have been great. The collaboration came on subsequent albums whose merits are arguably no better than The Rainbow Children and Musicology.

Your Bjork comparison doesn't really apply because she has always relied on production help. Sure it would be nice if Prince didn't make his bonehead moves but any artist must have the freedom to do as they wish. Creating those special moments is swing and miss.[/quote

yes...and for the most part prince's album's have been misses for the last decade.lets not kid ourselves, Musicology is no where near the level of a Parade or Lovesexy.....A thread was created if Musicology would be on their top five list of albums for the year and the majority answered no..Its the touring that had rekindled the love for the lil man....

and to clarify my personal vs musical statement..what i meant was that prince is challenged personally when he is surrounded by peers that resulted in his best music (on wax).

and prince has always surrounded himself with musical talent....andre, morris, jesse when he was starting out.....did you know lisa now has admitted she collaberated in writing a good portion of the first two The Time albums? it makes me wonder if the whole "written, produced and arranged by" wasnt just a marketing gimmick and/or those others around who helped out were dumb enough not to demand more recongition for their contributions...

but anyways, who's arround now to say, "yo prince...those candy vocals on 'life o the party' are wack! why not throw ask qwen stefani and jill jones over to mix and balance it out?"

:sigh:You said it all here sigh

It's a sin around here to proclaim that Prince isn't a genius, or even to HINT that he may have had "help". It "bursts" a lot of "fantasies" or 'dreams" that many die hard fans have....it bursts their bubbles, it breaks their hearts a little. Because let's face it...Prince WORKED to live up the hype of the one man band, the wunderkind...you know it, I know, HE knows it. And he's STILL living up to it, or trying to, or whatever. So, in essence, all this may be his fault...because he pushed himself out there in the beginning of his career, and throughout, as the man who could do it all...and MOST people believed it. Still do. That made him a superhero of sorts, ya see? So for all this information to come out about Lisa and Wendy having done this and that, and Andre and Dez having done this and that and etcera, is their kryptonite lol It'll be HIS kryptonite too, if these discoveries ever find their way to the mainstream public (and the media). And that scares the SHIT out of a lot of fans, honey. lol (hell it scares the shit outta me a little bit) lol But for a lot of fans the idea of that info coming out means scandal...it could mean that the world discovers that *gasp*! You mean Prince LIED about doing all that stuff??? I'm talking Milli Vanilli type stuff here lol I don't know, perhaps I'm exaggerating? But sos, I hope you see my point.

You know, Owen Husney was the FIRST PERSON in Prince's career to push that image, of him being the next Stevie Wonder, (he did it so Prince could get that deal with Warner Bros.) you see...and Prince took that and RAN with it, ya know? And he's been running with it ever since lol

Yes, his talent did get him there, but what you have to understand is...Prince wanted to produce himself on his first record, something that WB was not willing to do. Husney had to find a way to convince them that letting Prince produce himself was the right thing to do. Hence, the "one man band/Stevie Wonder" reason was put into play. Husney even invited some of the WB execs to Mpls to watch Prince do his thing in he studio. Prince didn't even know they were there! He saw them but he thought they were janitors lol After a while of this, one of them finally said "ok, go ahead, let him do it". The rest is history. You know that song, "Soft & Wet"? Well it was cowritten by a man named Chris Moon, in 1976. But did he get credit? Nope. So it appeared then that Prince was trying to live up the hype of the one man band.

They're not saying that Prince "stole" songs...they're saying that Prince did not credit them for contributing their ideas to the skeletons of HIS songs. (if I'm wrong, I'm sure sosgemini will correct me on that...) lol

man, i wish everlast were in on this thread cause he is much better at remembering specifics..

Originally Power Fantastic was submitted as Prince only...Right about the time Girlbros. came out the writing credit was changed to include wendy and lisa..Not saying thats when the change occured but thats when online fans took note and posted it over at the ole w&l imusic bulliten.

When was this? The lyrics were his, and the music theirs, right?

Originally, Power Fantasic was released on "The Hits/Bsides" without any credit to them, that's what I remember. I don't remember anything being "submitted" when girl bros came out, but like you said, everlast would know for sure. I remember that Power Fantasic was a composition by them called "carousel" and then Prince changed the lyrics, or something. They recorded it in his house.
