just my imagination is much superior in comparation with while my guitar gently ...

people rave about prince's soloing on while my guitar gently weeps.

some of the orgers often compare it with just my imagination from small club.

the truth is ;just my imagination is in many ways superior.
if we take the fact that both of the solos are improvised right on spot.

we can hear that his soloing on while my guitar is much more conventional solo
that stands on heavy bending of the notes.and some fast runs.
choice of notes is pretty obvious.

if we take a look at just my imagination we see guitar solo which contains some unusal note choices, especialy at the end where guitar sounds like it's crying.
just my imagination solo sounds like a story.
very fluent.very creative.

it sounds out of the world.i still can't belive that solo was improvised.
but if it wasn't improvised prince would repeat it in some other peformances of just my imagination,
which wasn't the case.
just my imagination is a winner ,no doubt.

I think the difference for me, and what make WMGGW better is that I actually got to watch him perform it.

I think you're technical approach to the solos misses what both solos are about... emotion.

Who cares that his choice of notes during WMGGW is "obvious". He makes those notes scream.

i used to love the solo on 'just my imagination'. However, I do believe that it has become over-hyped. Listening to it again recently was a real anti-climax.

This was, as you said, a hype that led me to (sorry!) download it off Napster a few years back. I retained the mp3, burned it on CD, got myself a beer, threw it in the Hi-Fi and waited for the "intensity"
The song itself was ok, at best. The guitar outburst was classic Prince, but nothing like it was elevated to. That was my lesson on Media. Weather you like it or not, we all are a huge media to all this purple stuff. Kinda makes me miss the times without internet and how a new release/show was a blind andventure.

I'd probably agree with you on this. It just doesnt do it for me anymore. Once it brought me to tears though.

Did you start drinking real early for New Years? Hall of Fame was nice because a lot of people got to see some of what he can do. Just My Imagination is Prince on another level. He's not proving anything to anyone, he hasn't got a tour to sell, he's not getting back in the game, it's just pure expression.

Sorry, I don't drink. My opinion just differs from yours. It has nothing to do with the amount of people seeing it or who he's trying to impress. My preference is for WMGGW. It's that easy.

Small Club '88-boot.

A solo that is over-hyped is the one from Joy In Repetition on the ONA-Live Aftershow cd. JMI is great, everytime I hear it, it brings back the greates concert-experience I have, the one of being there at the time!

and.....as Fhunkin said: Sheila's drumming did add magic to the mix.....very intense!

ah good, there are several versions out there and that's the one I've heard. Yes it is quite an amazing solo. I would probably rank it above the Harrison tribute performance as well.

I guess its a matter of taste. Hall O' fame in my opinion is far better than small club.

haven't heard WMGGW, but I tend to agree with that girl whose name is not Susan.....maybe because I saw it live.....and it blew me away, and it still does when I hear the boot!

MGGW was like a miracle. Does anyone have the vid clip (or a link)? My file got corrupted. When it worked, I watched it over and over, it was such a treat. It's ridiculous for someone to be so effortlessly talented.
Come here, babe.. yeah...
