Basic tracks for Purple Rain were recorded at First Ave. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

When I say Purple Rain I mean the single. Is First Ave a club? Working up a purple sweat.

First Ave is the club where the film Purple Rain was set. It's a real club in Minneapolis.

he Glam Slam is cTlosed right? First Avenue opened back up recently after a brief management dispute. Glam Slam reopened as The Quest club. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Adore was recorded on Wednesday, November 19, 1986. It was not a live recording and there were overdubs that were recorded on the 21st and 22nd of that month at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. Boris is correct. Purple Rain was recorded at 1st Ave on Wednesday, August 3, 1983 with the Revolution backing him. Additional work in the studio was done on Tuesday, Sept. 13 1983 with mixing done on Sept. 14 and 15. There was an entire verse that was edited out of the song once it was condensed. The editing/compiling of the Purple Rain album started on March 23, 1984 at Sunset Sound.
Hope that helps. [Edited 1/15/05 9:22am] The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Thanx Musicology. I've always thought there should be a book out there that lists his studio sessions. So far, something like DMSR or Days Of Wild are about as close as there is, but there are books about The Beatles, Hendrix, The Beach Boys, Clapton and others... why not one about Prince? But would people buy it? The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018.
