Warner Brothers and Prince

How much does Prince get from the release of the 3 dvd boxset Warners released or just the double dvd of Purple Rain,and all the other stuff they rerelased this year as he was popular again , also if he does not own the masters of his music how much does he receive ,it must annoy him they can release all these without his permission or can they prince square batting eyes

I'm sure that these releases were a part of a contract that WB had with Prince. Even though the both have nothing to do with eachother anymore, WB still sells his past catalog. I also know he gets a great royalty check from these fellas.

I was wondering the same thing about that CD "The Very Best of Prince" - wasn't that released by WB without Prince's permission.

I do own it, though . . .

Prince really dosen't have a choice. When artists sign contracts they have all kinds of stipulations for future releases. Its pretty much out of their control. I remember reading an article years ago about Prince not wanting to release a greatest hits album so thats why what he did release become "The Hits".

The Very Best of Prince was the final cd in Prince's contract with WB.
Thats it - no more WB cds.
Nothing can be remastered without Prince's permission.
WB has no authority to repackage any songs or albums.
