Best opening track and final track

Select your favourite opening track of any Prince LP followed by your favourite closing track. My selection...

Let's Go Crazy - a poptastic joy that never fails to put me a good mood; plus it contains my favourite Prince solo.

Sometimes it Snows in April - the most effecting of Prince's ballads; a timeless classic that would have happily sat on the One Nite Alone set.

ps: It is interesting to note that 12 of Prince's releases contain the title of the LP as their opening track (I include Parade - Christopher Tracey's...), very few artists do this. While there are four with the title as the closer: Purple Rain, Emancipation, Gold and Exodus ('The Exodus Has Begun' - the outro surely doesn't count). And that My Name is Prince is curiously the opener on the Symbol album - talk about ambiguity!
"Art calls for complete mastery of techniques, developed by reflection within the soul."

Both of mine are from Sign O The Times.

Sign O The Times is a tremendous opening track. It's ominous and moody and sad and lets you know what Prince's and everybody else's world is like...a place full of death and destruction. But the song goes right into "Play in the Sunshine" and "Housequake" and the vibe I always got is "Man this world sucks but I'm going to party my ass off anyway".

Adore ends the album on a brilliant note. Prince has introduced the state of the world, sang about the various diversions in life that keep us from getting too depressed about it and ends the CD with one of the purest loves songs by any musician, ever. In the end it's all about love, the undying, devotional, self-sacrificing love that makes all that depressing noise you hear on TV irrelavant. Love transcends time, place, space, death...love is the true sign of the times.

Pardon me for the extremely amateur, and completely unsolicited, album analysis. I think I had bad waffles this morning and it's making me all loopy.
All good things they say never last...

best closing trax, it's almost a tie between The Sacrafice of Victor and The Exodus Has Begun, Exodus beats it because of length.

best opening- tie: Let's Go Crazy and Controversy.

The final track is easy: The Exodus Has Begun (his funkiest song in the 90s)

"Sign 'O' the Times" and "Adore," most definitely. By the time you got to "Adore," you couldn't cap off what you heard in between any better...

hmmmm my pick may be a tad too obvious but I think Let's Go Crazy and Purple Rain are his best opening and closing tracks respectively. I think Let's Go Crazy is one of the best openers in rock history period, a wild fusion of hard rock, dance-pop and funk with a freaking organ-backed sermon as an intro. And Purple Rain I rank very highly among rock's best power ballads (probably next to the cross as prince's personal best power ballad). All in a great way to begin and end his tightest album to date

beginners: lets go crazy, christopher tracy's parade, musicology (love that "ooooh..uh"), around the world in a day and crystal ball.

enders: positivity ('yes..' cant say the name of that song witout following up with that lol), of course purple rain (i feel so drained after listening 2 that song...such an awesome musical climax), reflection,
