James Bond

Was Prince ever approached to perform a Bond theme after 1984? I was just looking back at all the Bond movies from the 80s and it never occured to me that Prince had never did one.

I can just imagine a prince bond movie theme song! It would be a perfect fit, maybe he can do a cameo! I wonder who the new Bond going to be? Bronson quit.

Actually, Brosnan was relieved from the MGM-EON bosses because he was getting too old. They want a new actor in his mid-thirties to portray Bond now and start over...

this would be an *EXCELLENT* time for P to do a bond theme. i truly doubt he'd do it, but the timing would be excellent. so i think, anyway.

I never wondered this and it is an interesting idea. I can never c Prince doing one. The choices 4 bond themes is so random but usually they go 4 brit acts I think?

Not necessarily. The only British acts to sing Bond themes were Paul McCartney (Live and Let Die), Lulu (The Man with the Golden Gun), Sheena Easton (For Your Eyes Only), Duran Duran (A View to a Kill) and Garbage (The World is Not Enough).

With Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Madonna having sang, I just would have thought that a Prince-Bond theme would be interesting.

Actually, isn't Sheena Scottish and Garbage Irish? Other Brits to do Bond were Tom Jones (Thunderball) and Shirley Bassey (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker).

I doubt if killing henchmen and bedding women left right and centre quite fit in with Prince's current beliefs!

He could have given them 'Lovesign' "pop pop go the pistol, bang bang go the gun".

Garbage have a Scottish lady (Shirley Manson) singing and the rest of the band are American.

Thats a travesty considering how long they let Roger Moore go on to play bond. By the end of his last film he looked about 65! I dont think Prince and the bond themes are a nice match personnaly.

Right on!!

I think Prince would be great, but I don't know his "sound" would fit in with the sound buffs there, they seem to want to put electo/dance into the music in the films.

But I can see Prince piano and guitar fitting in well!

Lets not forget he has done sound tracks before! Oh yeah It would be cool to see him in a moive even as a cameo as Modaonna did in die another day.

I always knew that Remington Steele would be a great Bond. I don't think he's too old. They're just trying to breathe new life into this dead franchise.

Yes, the WORST Bond movie ever--A View To a Kill. Poor Roger Moore was sporting the liver spots while hanging off the end of the fire engines and bridges of San Francisco.

No dis to Mr. Moore, but the producers did him a disservice with the corny scripts toward the end. Moore singlehandedly saved and almost killed the franchise.

My favorites in order:

1) Pierce Brosnan
2) Sean Connery
3) Roger Moore
4) Timothy Dalton
5) George (hahahaha) Lazenby

Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Although I liked Pierce Brosnan, I felt his films were getting too reliant on CGI - an invisible car? Oh, come on, I mean, how do you come back from that sort of technology in the next films? Bond was always about amazing, real stunts - a car jumping over a river has tension, a CGI car jumping across a river does not. You know that helicopter is going to start up because it hasn't really been pushed out of the back of a plane.

Sean Connery just had that 'X' factor, as he does in almost all his films.

I used to like Roger Moore when I was a kid, but then when I grew up I could see how it wasn't so good - though he had his moments.

Timothy Dalton was vastly underrated as a Bond, shame he only did 2 films. He had a raw aggression that was refreshing, but also you saw an emotional side to Bond. He always came across as dangerous and unpredictable, which was good.

Lazenby was also underrated, I never knew why people hated his performance - plus he was in one of the best bond films ever, not least because of the fantastic Diana Rigg and the best, most emotional ending to a Bond film.

Bond themes have always been hit and miss in recent times. I didn't think much of Sheryl Crow, Tina Turner or Garbage's efforts, Madonna eventually grew on me. Gladys Knight was great, I thought. I loved Duran Duran's and A-Ha's efforts, though very 'poppy', in fact previous to them, most all the tunes are classics. There's too much reliance these days on getting the 'in' act and making it sound contemporary - I much prefer it when they get someone who can actually sing and they put an orchestra over the top, a classy feel. I think Prince could do that, but I doubt he ever would - too much like selling out.

Though of course he did the theme to 'Batman' - Batdance, well, it's a sort of theme song. Always thought it was a brilliant, inspired, unusual effort, but it doesn't seem like people look so favourably back on it now...

Ok this is new. I've never heard of him being approached in the past. But I could see him doing it now. Whereas I couldn't really can't imagine what a Prince Bond Theme would have sounded like say 15 or so years ago.

I was thinking the same thing. Roger Moore was the second worst Bond ever. The absolute worst goes to Timothy Dalton.
