UTCM DVD "color" easter egg OK I know this thread is asking a question that has probably been asked--and answered--a thousand times before, BUT:
On the UTCM DVD, exactly where is the easter egg located that allows you to watch the movie in color??? And I KNOW there is one, 'cause a long time ago I read someone's post (which I can't find now!) who asked the same question and got a tired-ass cryptic response which went something like, "Seek high and low and u shall find it." Well, I got the DVD for Christmas and searched all over in the menus...no icons or other clickable objects besides the normal stuff were anywhere to be found!!! What gives??? HELP!

Fer cryin' out loud. It would cost more to re-work UTCM in color than that turkey ever made at the box office. There is no full color print of that movie in existance. No easter egg. Never gonna happen. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It is circulating in colour though isn't it?
I remember seeing someone offer it for sale years and years ago, I never picked it up and by then I'd kinda lost interest in trading.

It contains (I think) UTCM footage in color. [Edited 12/31/04 1:07am] If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

wasn't some of scenes filmed in COLOUR film with the intention of changing it to black and white. but some of the scenes didn't look right so they changed to black and white film and reshot them scenes and continued with the rest of the movie?

I think that it was shot entirely on colour film - they did have to reshoot some of the earlier scenes because some of the light and shade didn't look right once they processed it into black and white, but I think they still continued with colour film. You'd expect that somewhere someone kept the original colour footage, but whether they finished the entire film and then processed into b&w or whether it was processed into b&w at the development stage before editing - who knows? All the seperate colour bits might exist but not as an entire film. The Mountains rehearsal is one long shot, is it not? That's why it may exist in colour, no editing involved.

Yes it was filmed in color.....Prince wanted a B/W movie and WB didn't sit well with the idea.....so they compermised and filmed it in color and aired it in B/W. Prime aka The Kid

You can tell it was shot in colour since the colours (or shades!) aren't the same as when a film is shot in b&w (which is what Prince originally wanted, but he had to compromise with Warners).

IT DOES NOT EXIST. (if anyone tells you otherwise, they're winding you up) Boris - could you just clarify - a) It doesn't exist on the DVD as an easter egg or b) It doesn't exist circulating, or uncirculating, anywhere.

Sheesh!
Now I remember why I only visit the Org once every 3 months! Why is it that no matter where you go there are always haters, pranksters and just plain EVIL people just waiting to pull one over on you???? AAAAARRGGGH!!! However, I am very thankful for the many DECENT people here....Shouts out to Boris, Supernova, June7, Vampy, MPLSFunk, bananacologne, binaryjustin, and comeon, just to name a few! back to lurk mode until I regain faith in the honesty of humanity (or until sometime in March, whichever comes first)

Both. It's true that it was filmed on color film because WB were nervous about releasing a black and white movie and wanted to keep their options open. However, the film was processed to black and white straight away, so by the time the movie was edited together, it was already only black and white. So there is no 'color version' of the movie. You'd have to go back to the original footage and reprocess and reconstruct the movie from scratch to create a color version.
