From For You til Purple Rain every album got better and better, then exploded with Purple Rain, ATWID was just doing what he wanted because he could, UTCM was good a lot of Lisa and Wendy, as far as his worst of the eighties, a tie between Lovesexy and Batman.

Why's everyone hating on Batman?
The Future, Vicki Waiting, Scandalous, Electric Chair... all better than most of Lovesexy and Dirty Mind (two very over-rated albums). Lovesexy is probably the most over-rated album I own. Not the most over-rated Prince album... the most over-rated album FULL STOP. Dance On is just plain awful. By far the worst record he'd made since Jack U Off. I rank it alongside Animal Kingdom and Life O The Party. That's how much it stinks! I Wish U Heaven and When 2 R In Love are completely MOR... they don't interest me in the slightest. And Glam Slam is only redeemed by the absolutely jaw-dropping classical bit at the end... the rest is too fluffy for my liking. Somebody explain to me why the filler on Lovesexy is always over-looked because of a handful of genius moments?

Actually, I thought "Batman" was one of his best albums that came after "Purple Rain". "Batman" felt kinda like a brief return of the "old Prince". It was dark, cold, and futuristic...the type of Prince I love. Gone were the weird retro artsy-fartsy "that song is genius" or "that song saved my life" type songs. It was just good cold Prince...the type of Prince I had grown up on but with a little updated twist. My problem with the album was that too many songs bled off of each other. "The Future" was "Batdance Part 1" and "Electric Chair" was "Batdance Part 2". "Batdance" was a combination of both. Both are great songs but they are too much like "Batdance". "Scandalous" could have been played with any of the "old Prince" slow jams. It's definately my favorite on the album. "Partyman" is not Prince at his best but it is definately a jam. I could have done without "Trust" or "Lemon Crush". Another thing I didn't like was that the groove from "Lemon Crush" was a rip off of one the songs on the "Minneapolis Genius" album. The album was OK but it sounded like it was rushed to get done before the movie came out. Overall, I give Prince an A for briefly bringing back a dark, cold futuristic sound (even if it wasn't his best) instead of going back to the 1960s and 1970s like he had on the previous albums. Andy is a four letter word.

Judging the albums strictly by good-song/crap-song ratios, I'd give the nod (like a lot of people) to Batman. There are a lot of ordinary, by-the-books tracks (Trust, Partyman), a ballad that Celine Dione would probably consider too saccharine, and even the better songs (Future, Electric Chair) have a robotic, uninspired quality that seems to prevent me from truly liking them.
However, while I don't consider it the worst album, I hate Lovesexy the most. It's the only eighties Prince record that I actively dislike - musically ordinary with inane, new-agey lyrics. [Edited 1/1/05 7:36am]

Which album do u dis-like from the 80's era? Controversy has the most throwaways. Right after Do Me Baby, Let's Work, and Controversy, the rest of the album is a waste. The thing with Batman to me is that the songs are awesome within the movie, but listening to the CD by itself as a Prince album is just fuckin' awful.
The Future-Great for the movie in the background, isn't even worth hearing by itself. Electric Chair-A great song. Funky. Arms of Orion- Hands down one of the most laughable, embarassing Prince songs of all time. Partyman- Great within the movie, a fucking snore by itself. Vicky Waiting-A quality song, but nothing fantastic. Trust-Again; good in the movie, totally and utterly forgettable on the album. Lemon Crush-Another weak song. Scandalous-A great sex ballad from The Kid. Batdance-Love this song. Humourous, quirky, and catchy. So, that's 3 great songs, 1 solid one, and 5 bad-awful ones. Weak! You know Prince gotta be a bad motherf**ker to have put out some shitty albums and still have a large fan base. I think all his albums were different in their own way and its hard to say which one was the worse. [Edited 1/1/05 20:11pm]

is not, of course, a bad album as a matter of fact friggin' love it.
But I feel that was made due to company agreements and all that paperwork . Don't you think that it was after releasing when started acting "weird" about his "slavery"? no

Wow, really? What did Prince expect, for Batman to fight the Joker at the end while Batdance plays? They played Prince's music in that movie plenty. Don't see what the guy had to complain about... I will be extremely diplomatic and simply say I disagree. The album was a classic and ahead of its time. "Kiss," "Anotherlover . . ." "Girls and Boys," and "Mountains"? You consider those tracks weak? Wow. If Prince weren't proud of it he would have never played "Sometimes It Snows In April" on this year's tour. In any event, his comments may have been tempered by the firing of the Revolution, which was no more than a year or two after he made those comments. Newer artists like Jill Scott, D'Angelo, and the Roots, among others, appreciate the genius of the album. But beauty is in the ear of the listener . . . A great album indeed!!!!
