Is Prince a washed up old has been?

I can't imagine Prince being up in them charts anymore. I can't imagine him "winning", maybe nominated but not winning. Do you think Prince is a washed up old has been mainly wanted by his "fans"?

I do. He been there done that, Old news
but I find his fan's more entertaining then him lol.

You have to step outside of that view and look at what the charts and commercial music is.

Prince still has a role in that industry, but it's a different role, just like it should be.

If being a washed up old has been is:

-Having the top tour of the year
-Having a platinum plus selling album
-Giving a most legendary performance at the Grammy's
-showing you are still vital as ever when being inducted into the Rock&roll hall of fame
-being on the cover of a multitude of major magazines and papers including Rolling Stone and USA Today
-Having an MTV, Vh1 and BET simulcast TV special
-Having the most successful concert/movie theater simulcast ever
-being nominated for as many Grammy's as you were during "Purple Rain"

then I think most musicians and singers wish they were a "washed up old has been" like Prince.

Prince proved this year that when he wants to be in the charts, he still can be. His role today is different. He's all about being free and making money on his own terms now.

Washed up? Far from it. Prince is forever.

Prince has already won. Warner Bros. Records doesn't get a dime of the $87 million dollars Prince made with the #1 tour of 2004. dancing jig
Yep, poor, pitiful, washed up Prince. Sad how his life took such a downturn. rolleyes

Hmmm.. I'm not sure if he'll ever have a huge hit anymore. By this, I'm not talking record sales. I'm talking about 13 and 14 year old girls in school carrying with pictures of him stuffed inside thier lockers, I'm talking about vh-1 doing Prince stories every day, I'm talking about TRL playing his videos on a regular basis--this I just don't see. He's too old, too tame, and too religious.

HOWEVER, Prince to call him a used-up has-been isn't exactly doing the man justice.
Prince has ALWAYS been an edge artist with an unusually large fan base. He's seldom treated his career as a hit-making machien (he's done it rarely). It seems, when fame leaps up at him, it's a byproduct of some wierd thing he's done, and not becuase he's actively seeked it out.

I would say, he's a resounding success. He's been able to do what Ami Mann or Ani Difranco have done, but musically he dwarfs both these persons, and his fan base dwarfs theirs too. And with all the props and kudos they've gotten , Prince deserves that exponentially.

So, will he ever be the Purple Rain level Prince ? Unlikely. Is he a washup? No, definately not.

Did ths assessment help? And by having read this post, can you conclude whether or not Prince is even remotely gay?

Every artist who's ever been famous, popular and relevent eventually has to face a downward descent, you can't stay 'on top' forever. Well, Madonna's making a decent, some would say desperate, attempt, but apart from her. However, every artist creates a fanbase in which they will forever be relevent and important, and with Prince you have a legacy that is constantly being rediscovered by new, younger fans.

I was thinking the other day, most artists who get rich and famous, they build their own studio in their house, then go on to produce progressively duller and unimaginative music until they disappear. Prince never fell into that pattern, it is a credit to him that he has constantly pushed himself in the studio without the need for an external producer to inject new life.

Can Prince become universally popular again? Perhaps, for a year sometime, maybe. I mean, Carlos Santana had a hit record a while back, anything's possible.

I don't think you could ever call Prince a has been. I mean, if he was in the same room as you, you could never be blase about it...

After Musicology? NO. Musicology is Prince's comeback album. Prince got new fans with the Musicology video on MTV and the Grammys with Beyonce.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.
