interesting, all the albums mentioned here are my favorites. I loved rave, rainbow,...and i think the black album is the darkest funk he ever did. Wonder what that says about me? Am i someone who always has to disagree? jee.

rave and nps are by far the worst. for you is a very good album. even better when you consider it was a freshman effort. chaos and disorder is highly underrated!!!! it has some great guitar work all over it. i rock therefore i am..should have been a release. i wish zannalee were longer, but that album was great. If were friends with warners when it was released he had a hit on his hands.

I TOTALLY agree. I happen to love The Rainbow Children. I don't hate NPS, Rave, or really any of his records. I like some more than others but there aren't any I truly HATE.

If you are a true Prince fan and not just a time to time listener, I think you'll discover none of his albums suck! Believe me there is a time and space for every last one of them. Tried and True!

I've been a fan for about 19 years and have to seriously disagree. To blindly follow is to become one of life's sheep. My worst Prince album - definitely NPS as a whole. Disjointed and lacking substance - save a few gems (every album has them). Chaos & Disorder also gathers dust.

Those dissing TRC - have you really sat down and listened to it. IMO this is Prince back to a form I thought he had lost. If he can continue in this vein, I believe we will hear true masterpieces. BTW listened to Graffiti Bridge again today (not listened to it for a while) and was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. OK, title track is weak but I like the "compilation" feel and there are some true classics (Q of U, Joy...)

i don't prefer Rave at all! there a couple of interesting tracks on there like Greatest Romance, Undisputed and the Sheryl crow cover where he sounds like Kirk franklin. HA! i actually like whereever you go, whatever you do....P's pop songs are always good. i just have no time for silly game and that bloomin' tangerine. yick.

The Prince cd I listen to the least is Kamasutra. It just kinda bores me. It is good for ending a party - it will send people for the door.

I can't believe someone wouldn't like The Gold Experience. It's one of my all time favorites. But I've said that before.

I agree with the one that said it was a strange subject !

I hate dislike Kamasutra.

I can't come to terms with Parade and I dislike C&D.

Could this b a generational thing?

Is it fair 2 say that most P fans from the early 80s, like me, find NPS and Rave 2 B severely disappointing?

I quite liked C&D, love Black and ATWIAD.

Come comes and goes 4 me, but it's definitely got its moments. I love album 2, and most of 3 of Emancipation, and even some of 1, but overall it suffered from overkill.

ATWIAD is my favorite Prince album. I love Rainbow Children. It's the first Prince album that I listen to all the way through in a long time.

I don't have any albums by Prince that I hate, or even call his worst.

I guess I will have to go with which ones I don't listen to that much...

1. Diamonds and Pearls
2. Graffiti Bridge
3. O+->

"Oh my God there i go, falling in love with a face in a magazine..."
"So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

Definitely, the least likable has to be "Rave...". Too electronic and all those special guesses (with the exception of Sheryl Crow, that song is great).

I THINK WE NEED 2 CLARIFY A FEW THINGS!!!

Firstly, New Power Soul is an album by The New Power Generation NOT Prince. I know he will have had a lot of the input but it is the follow on from GoldNigga and Exodus.

Chaos and Disorder and The Vault have disclaimers inside saying "This material was originally intended 4 private use only" which 2 me, eliminates the need 2 compare them with the rest of his releases. They were released 2 fulfil his contract obligations 2 Warners. Same really 4 Come and The Black Album.

The Rainbow Children is musically a brilliant album. The concept is as original as ever. The religion and narrator is offputting but it grows on u. The drumming and guitar r excellent.

The Gold Experience is also a mid nineties touch of what The NPG of that time was about. A nineties highlight 4 me.

OK, moving on 2 what i think his weakest albums r,

For You
Graffiti Bridge (i can never get in2 this)
Controversy
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

there u go!

The ONLY P album I thought was bad overall is Graffiti Bridge. Maybe if that album was only P's music, It might rank up there with some of the greats. With all the other artists bad music, it makes the album almost un-listenable.

The only other album I look at as "aiight" is NPS. Not horrible, but definitely not great. Otherwise, For You is one of my favorites overall, I think its still one of P's best works.

NPS had Prince on the cover, if he didn't want people to think it was his album he wouldn't have put his picture on it.

I don't think it's so much terrible as it is DULL. I'd classify it as the most dull album he ever made.

Rave, although this album is not one of his best, I don't know that it's his worst either. There are definitely too many cooks in the kitchen on it (just like the GB album), and that's one of the things that gives it its drawbacks. But there are still a few very good songs on it. Had he not resorted to the pseudo-dancehall type of rap on "The Sun, The Moon, and Stars" it would have been better, but at the same time I like the song, AND the fact that he programmed the drums instead of Kirk - as opposed to a lot of the other songs.

Both NPS and Rave are overall the antithesis of what makes Prince special. As is Chaos and Disorder and Come - albums thrown together while he coasted out of his contract. Batman is no stellar piece of work either.

The thing about Prince albums is that each and every one of them always seem to have AT LEAST one gem that showcases Prince at his idiosyncratic best.
